Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics released on Wednesday highlighted the issues facing the building sector.Loading Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the investment wasn't just about helping Australians bring their dream home to life, but supporting the more than one million builders, painters, plumbers and electricians across the country.
The scheme will means-tested for singles who earned up to $125,000 in the previous financial year, and couples who earned up to $200,000 between them. HomeBuilder cannot be for used for additions to the property that are unconnected to the principle place of residence such as swimming pools, tennis courts, outdoor spas and saunas, sheds or garages.Owner-builders and those seeking to build a new home or renovate an existing home as an investment property will be ineligible for scheme.
$150k spend needed if I am reading it right? That is pretty substantial & will disclude many people. wouldn't that grant work better to improve home home value, boost wages and help lower income fix their homes? At least give money w/better return on investment?
But only for those with a handy $150k already 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That headline is just LNP propaganda, the new normal from the Costello run
And the rich get richer... what a disgrace this country is! The people who own homes and can afford a $150,000 Reno are NOT the people who should be benefiting from this. Just blows my mind!
This looks like a nice bit of prosperity gospel in action by the Government. RenoRorts is an incompetent and biased way to get the economy moving.
No ordinary Australians of the ‘battler” type are not going to qualify! Once again the LiberalAus don’t think about anyone other than the rich! auspol AustralianLabor
It's disgusting. We do not need extensions to McMansions. Many Australians desperately need universal access social housing homes. This is rorts for middle class. Just so angry about this. People with disabilities needing disabled friendly homes. auspol MSM
Obscene misdirection of money that could help the disadvantaged
Build social housing. Australia is a Sovereign wealth nation where Federal spending is not restrained by tax collected only the resources we have and the Govt's agenda. We must spend to the people's needs, not the LNP agenda. LearnMMT RenoRort
Echobox! More like LNP propaganda megaphone!
If you have a lotta cash, you'll *get* a lotta cash! Fantastic! Great move. Well done Scott.
Morrison claims people’s “DREAMS to renovate” are dashed by the virus! The GREAT AUSSIE DREAM was once to own one’s home. For Gen X, it’s affording to leave the family home. Liberal Party policies protect investors & relatively wealthy. The rest of us scramble to pay rent.
Public housing for the homeless would be a better investment of public money. A secure roof over your head reduces demands on health/ police/ courts/ jail services & provides a base to live a life with dignity. ScottyFromMarketing should pray about this.
Bloody Typical - - no help for the poor here!! (And can someone tell me, are the loans available to investors for their properties?) auspol ScottyFromMarketing
The offer is flawed....
Who in god's name thought up this ridiculous scheme.....oh, that's right, our LNP government. Their incompetence is staggering, talk about throwing good money at bad ideas and expecting them to work. We are in a hole, so stop digging.
The margins too qualify for the grant is that narrow it can’t be taken up by a lot of people that could benefit from it. Just more smoke and mirrors from a government that has never liked stimulus even when it’s desperately needed.
Only for couples who earn more than $200,000 a year apparently. This is ScottyFromMarketing looking after ' white privileged Australian ' voters .
Bullshit the construction has not hit the wall - it is predicted to slow down. Modelling and predictions are not exactly accurate though are they do why not look after the problems here right now as opposed to a so called predicted problem
I wonder if the scheme is open to pensioners that can't afford maintenance or renovations to their home?
So once again the hard working family's get punished for paying too much tax ScottMorrisonMP. Why can't you target the people who get free money, with no intentions of contributing to our communities. Instead you consistently smash the middle income.
This is rubbish. The construction industry has been going throughout covid19 lockdown. Where does govt get its data from? Lendlease? Give me a break.
Inquiry time. International community is looking at us. What happened to bush fire donated funds. There are people still without homes, living in tents.
A good idea...done poorly.
Your all assuming that the tradie is going to show up...
I am sure this will have little to no effect on the value of many politicians investment properties
This policy is shit and will barely get used. Spend $150k on a reno to get $25k. The people who want to spend that kind of money on a reno probably won’t pass the income test. stupidpolicy
tradies r busy They got $50k instant tax write off PM is just wasteful splashing $25k to home owners to build new sheds n garage Solar power for hotels n factories would be BETTER spend Like sports rort it is abt Eden Monaro they had splashed $600mils for bush towns rebuild
I suppose Scotty from the Block will be looking after this program
Seriously, who comes up with such initiatives? The construction industry remained operational during this pandemic, and the slowdown is the result of greedy developers who want to wait for the return of hyper-inflated property prices to resume their poorly planned projects.
Another program showing how out of touch they are with average Australians by giving tax payers' money as a gift to those already well off.
Rorts waiting to happen be some dodgy deals in the $25k Reno areas no Reno 25k split between tradie and friends
Another rubbish policy. Economy headed south so let’s give $25k to people spending $150k+ on their reno. Watch quotes go up by $25k 😂
And people were worried this was going to increase housing stock and oversupply the market. Least that isn’t going to be an issue with this useless scheme.
I bet there’s a criteria.. don’t meet it no cash
Is this because Scott Cam is skint? 🤷♀️
How about we build homes for the homeless & vunerable people in our country instead .rorts ScottyFromMarketing
Does that apply to all Australians young an old .. or you giving to certain people
Read the fine print... another liberal white wash
Similar sentiment to other commenters. I had wanted to do some modest renovations, but my property is worth about $300k. So am I going to do a reno to half its value? Ah, no.
If you have (a go),you will get(a go) gospel according to ScottyFromMarketing
As usual folks who have money to squander are rewarded by this conservative govt
Ummm so my husband and I have to earn $200k but can afford to do a $150k+ Reno on a house worth $1.5M to qualify for $25k? Good luck finding eligible recipients...
About time.... how do you expect Tradies to keep up the payments on their $70,000 Utes without taxpayer handouts?
Ok, sure, I could do with $25k to renovate my house, fix my bathroom, get the crap pumping sorted ... oh wait, I need to spend $75k to be eligible? Pretty much knocks out all low income earners.
Wow, this is poorly targeted and wont generate the work that's needed. Good luck tradies! Better to be a 50k limit
This is going to turn bad. Big mistake.
This is another marketing scheme designed for minimal takeup. Who seriously, in a recession will fork out the required 150k for renos to get the 25k grant? Classic ScottyFromMarketing. Looks good on the surface however below is a steaming pile of bullshit. auspol
A new tiny house or may be just a tiny toilet!
can i get $25,000 to renovate my podcast?
Gonna build me a $25,000 house 😎
The money should be spent on affordable housing.
wow. we were considering updating our 22yo kitchen. You have to spend at least $150,000? Counts us out. The govt may as well write cheques to the big building companies and cut out the middleman
Another gift for lifters who are having a go. Pity nothing for the poor and disadvantaged who are in desperate need of social housing but they‘re leaners who aren’t having a go.
Taxpayer money again used to inflate assests, to top off years of policy that encouraged the same thing, shifting future wealth & access to home ownership to the current generation. The unemployed youth can maybe work as labourers on these projects—to put the knee on their necks
I being an interior architect I might personally benefit from this, but it’s wrong and unfair. There’s plenty more ways to create construction jobs. This is clearly a play to the base. Hooray, people who already own a home... let’s get richer! gross auspol
thelittleisland
It’s just a hunch but I’m gonna say this won’t work. Most people have already written off 2020. Ask around.
ScottMorrisonMP That’s just great, tradies need it. Too bad all us Arts workers won’t have homes to renovate or build, as we struggle to feed our families. Stage, screen and cultural workers first to shutdown, will be last to return. No film work in sight for many. withMEAA
Taxpayers on minimum wages will be delighted to support this program. While they're checking if they have enough money for next week's rent. If you have funds to for a $150k + reno, then you do not need a taxpayer handout.
What about those that struggle to even own a house due to their intoxicating prices
The HomeBuilder scheme will be a relief to thousands of builders and tradies facing a valley death with forward work evaporating and thousands of jobs on the line auspol
