My husband Kris and I struck a domestic bargain early in our relationship, that I’d do the cooking and he’d handle the housework. This was acceptable to us both, because I love cooking and he has a passion for vacuuming.

A few years ago, he entrusted me with selecting a new vacuum cleaner, with instructions that I should buy that brand, the one everyone mentions when you ask for vacuum recommendations. But once I got to the shop, the nice salesperson explained that all those friends we’d spoken with had been tricked by crafty marketing.He then proceeded to show me the One True Vacuum, the vacuum to rule them all, the master of the vacuum universe, a vacuum that spat in the face of that more popular brand.

When you analyse house work in a comprehensive way you will find that men do much more than you would believe. Meta research 10 years ago in America showed that men actually did more around the house than women. Depends what you include as house work. Is mowing lawn house work?
