The Auditor-General earlier this year found the fund had overwhelmingly promised car parks to Coalition seats. Target electorates such as Robertson and Lindsay in NSW and La Trobe and Dunkley in Victoria were pledged multiple car parks while neighbouring seats were ignored. The Senate estimates committee was told four projects – at Gosford, St Marys and Macarthur stations in NSW and Beaconsfield in Victoria – would need funding for completion in 2024-25.
Labor senator Deb O’Neill said people in Kananook and Seaford had been promised congestion relief by Prime Minister Scott Morrison ahead of the election, only for it to be withdrawn after he had “bought the votes”.“Those communities expected that to happen and the only reason they’ve been pulled ...
The strategy said the Woy Woy train station and commercial centre were key parking “hot spots” and had reached practical capacity.Senator O’Neill argued the whole process had been promised by the government with no idea how or even if the proposed projects could be delivered.
