"This is victory, those who fought for our freedom day and night we won't forget you till our last breath for what we have done," he said.

Hamad Sodani, an Iranian refugee who spent close to six years detained on Manus Island before being transferred to Melbourne, told SBS News he now hoped to be able to build a life in Australia. The newly-released refugees have been taken to a motel where they will stay temporarily.

Mr Hakim and his organisation are now crowdfunding emergency donations to help support the men following their release. "They can't benefit from government safety nets, they're not entitled to Centrelink, and they left with nothing," he said.

ASRC1 I was under the impression that the Bridging Visa E offered no path to settlement in Australia

Abdulaziz_Ada Don't ever complain about the free accom, food, clothing, mobile phones and data plans provided to asylum seekers in Australia. In NZ and Canada people arriving on boats are immediately Jailed and look at what happens in Saudi

6 months?. Should be allowed to stay permanently.

and yet we still have 2 aussie kids incarcerated on Christmas island.

Are we that low on fruit pickers?

What about the Chinese detained in Villawood? They are also unlawfully detained. When will they be released or deported?

Who said cheats never win!

deniseshrivell Interesting timing.

thought they were sick and starving looks healthy to me send em home

I don't trust RottenSpud Dutton. Are we going to have an election in 6 months time, and will these men be reincarcerated under trumped-up charges? Perhaps the grubby govt hopes they will succumb to covid2021mv? Imo, the govt did not let these men out on compassionate grounds.

About time ...

deniseshrivell Good news. I wonder if the scruntiny of the UN is worrying Dutton and his illegal confinements.

Because Australia was raked over the coals at the UN Human Rights Summit

LadyPoop2 Congratultion

3wombats Oh! That's Good🤗😊What are the Strings attached🤔🙄😑😐?

gwendabgilbert Dutton and Scomo must be fuming, they might have tried to stop the boats, but lawyers beat them in court... Again. How good is Christian Porter🤣🤣🤣Merit ?

Used Medevac rort to bypass the laws. Thank you Labor and Greens.

deniseshrivell And no questions to LNP on why they were held/why they were released and how much did it cost us and what organisations and companies have benefited financially their imprisonment?

Have they been tested for COVID before their release?

SBS Only bc Aust had faced the UN over its atrocious human rights and recent exposure to SAS cold blooded war crimes. Like really... what year is it

Lynmaree56 Same thing Howard did in 2007. Take away the passion from folks marching the streets in protest during an election herewego Ausvotes2021

deniseshrivell Once that six months is up and the lnp win the election they will be on a plane back to their country of origin.

I'm happy to spend more money to keep them in detention. Take it out of the money we'll save from defunding SBS.

So we can’t call him a criminal anymore? Sleaze and adulterer is still ok though right? The whole justice system in Australia is rigged. Fresh hope for Biloela asylum seeker family as Karen Andrews hints at possible releaseThere are fresh hopes a Tamil asylum seeker family could soon be released into community detention on Christmas Island after new Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews hinted at their possible release. The cynic in me says there has to be vested interests there ... whether as part of their continual election campaign or needing to clear the island for quarantine ... but don't expect any details and transparency let alone truths. Community detention? Oh FFS just release them already. Sooner rather than later.
