It’s only October, but Sky News host Rita Panahi says the “miserable moaners” are already gearing up for “another Australia Day-bashing extravaganza”. This week, Melbourne's Port Phillip Council announced it will hold a "morning of mourning" ceremony on Australia Day before holding celebrations.

With a number of “left-wing councils” around Australia “trashing the day”, Ms Panahi has one message for them: “Do your jobs”. “Local government is about the three Rs of roads, rates and rubbish,” she said. “It is not an avenue for frustrated activists to push their pet agendas. “Too many councillors prefer to grandstand on national and international issues rather than focus on the job at hand.”
