Victoria records a record number of coronavirus cases with 288 new COVID-19 cases diagnosed since yesterday, the largest daily increase of the pandemic so far.

Victoria has recorded a record number of coronavirus cases with 288 new COVID-19 cases diagnosed since yesterday, the largest daily increase of the pandemic so far.Premier Daniel Andrews said 37,588 tests were conducted yesterday.

"That is the biggest single day of testing that has been done and by some considerable margin," he said. He said Victorians, especially those living in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire, which are subject to a six-week lockdown, should wear face masks when they leave the house."We are simply asking that if you can, wear a mask where you can't distance.""There will be great concern about those numbers, people will feel particularly concerned to see that number as high as it is," he said.

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said today's numbers were "ugly" but they were an indication of what was happening in the state one week ago. He said he expected numbers to plateau over the coming week if people adhered to the stay-at-home rules.More to come.

Give people their freedom of breath, give people their freedom to choose to die.

I hope you're class action sued for bad information when people get sick from wearing these masks. Where do you show your information on masks and hazards of wearing them?

New England Journal of Medicine - “we know that wearing a mask outside of a medical facilities offers little, if any, protection from infections” PMID 32237672

David_Speers Except the VIC CMO days teachers can’t teach in masks...but health workers work day and day out wearing masks. WTF

Have we not learned from the BLM rally that communists don't respond to 'urging'. Force must be used.

I knew this was coming. Here comes the panic buying. Glad I stocked up a couple of weeks ago when I thought I might be going back to work via public transport. I expect our work Christmas party will be on Zoom at this rate.

Oh boy. Here come the 'quiet Australians' to show us some garbage from Facebook about masks being mind control or some rot.

Its over. Embrace the horror

ridicule turns to compliance

'Urged to wear' Self isolating did not work, social distancing did not work. Ppl bumping into others in supermarkets, kids all over each other at schools and teachers saying nothing. In what world does self-regulating work? 🤔 If any gov is serious mandate it.

Always recording daily increase but no deaths. WHY? Is it because all the over-testing artificially increase the positive test results which DOES NOT equate to infected cases? Also, healthy people wearing masks is nothing more than public display of low IQ.

Masks should’ve been compulsory since day one, better late than never I guess

Info for Victorians on how to make their own face masks. There literally aren’t enough in the state and this is urgent . Recommend prioritising “how to make your own mask” in news abcmelbourne vicpol

David_Speers 3 months after the pandemic hit Australia. WHAT IS MORRISON DOING?

Masks need to be mandatory in schools. THERE IS NO SOCIAL DISTANCING AT SCHOOLS. Anyone that thinks there is, is a fool.

...and if you think masks are not for you, consider this... Thailand with a population of some 65 million has recorded approximately 3500 confirmed cases, whilst having 58 deaths. Masks, social distancing and hand sanitizers are compulsory by order of an emergency decree.

Investigations everyday ‘we never hear the outcomes !

make it menditary!

The headline is not correct, I accidentally watched that little piece, the advice is that people in a hotspot should consider wearing a mask. I say accidentally bc this whole thing here in Australia is a great big nothing, 27 million people, is it 200 deaths or less?
