Some epidemiologists say good hygiene, face masks, strict social distancing, gathering outdoors instead of indoors, and paid sick leave for workers were far more effective in preventing transmission of coronavirus

Top infectious disease experts are unconvinced about the merits of Melbourne's five-kilometre rule, arguing its health benefits must be more closely scrutinised against the great social and economic cost.

"Limiting movement limits the spread of this virus," Mr Andrews said. "Keeping people local, to their local communities, is very, very important." Modelling released on Sunday, undertaken by the Burnet Institute, showed that a NSW-style set of restrictions would have resulted in a 41 per cent chance of a third wave within four weeks.

There are some exceptions to the 5km-rule under current restrictions, including those who are providing care, single people visiting a nominated person in another household, intimate partners, and people taking children to school and child care. There is no epidemiological rationale to say people within a heavily populated community must stay within five kilometres or 10 kilometres.Mystery cases, where the source of the infections was unknown, had also dwindled down to one or two cases a day, hinting at low levels of community transmission. On Monday, there were no new mystery cases reported.

Where were they 6 months ago? WHO said no masks and keep all borders open! All you need to do is keep your face away from others. That's it.

Some

Bloody sooks it’s working nonstop sooking

'Some 'eptimologists' lol, seems that costellos age readership has devolved to a bunch of twitter qanons. lol. enjoy your race to the bottom with newscorpse. Must hurt that the public is with Dan though, and not your pathetic libs.

So curfew sucessfully defeated, The Age moves on to attacking another public health measure.

What has become of the Aged? This is a stupid article, one of many that fill the pages now. Its Common sense that to restrict the spread of the virus, you restrict movement.Thats what they’ve done Its working Stop your “mah freedum is gawn” narrative or else we’ll have a 3rd wave

But then a lot think otherwise.

Some who Some other think what It doesn’t matter We have a Road Map and it’s working Newspaper’s run by mental giants

No.

As numbers come down dramatically we’re still undermining how we all got it down. Staying put matters. 40% risk of 3rd wave if we didn’t lock down hard - maybe that’s the headline?

More undermining of the health response from Costello’s TheAge. Day by day sounding that much more like a newscorpse paper. But when you hire ex Murdoch hacks what would one expect? BinTheAge auspol

Sounds like common sense to me, + add in enhanced practices for hospitals, aged care, etc.. We need to learn to live alongside this virus.

FatherBob Maybe it’s time to “stop your sobbing” as Chrissie Hynde would say. The current restrictions are working. All the complaining isn’t helping one iota.

FatherBob Leave 5km rule as long as possible. Should be one of last measures lifted. I don’t want infected dickheads from hotspot suburbs coming to my zero cases suburb. Stay away

FatherBob During school holidays? Perfect recipe for Melbournians to scatter to the four corners of Victoria with virus still in the community. Think before publishing

5km sucks. I get they want us to stay local, 10km would be much more manageable and still local 🙁

5km rule is arbitrary, no science or data can back it up, why not 4km or 6km?

Do they seriously think people would follow this? Check out the tweets responding to this...

Can you send the expert medical advice to your love child... Daniel. He thinks its normal to lockup 5M Victorians

Covid19NSW If you consider Australia and even Victoria’s response to a situation that was completely unexpected 12 months ago I think we’ve done exceptionally well. We have learnt as quickly as we can and that is to be lauded. Some things worked some didn’t, that doesn’t make them mistakes

No.

Freedom of movement

5 cases today it was worth it

Boring ...

Perspective

It's absurd. We are the laughing stock of the world.

They hide behind 'the science' but never produce 'the science' to back up their power trip policies.

And many more say otherwise. Take masks...

Of course it seem a lot don't like it.
