A combination of poor internet connection and low financial literacy mean that many are only vaguely aware of their accounts It has happened to dozens of Aboriginal people across Australia's north in recent weeks, who had the surreal experience of being told by travelling financial counsellors that they had significant savings they had little idea about.

The jubilant scenes have played out in Darwin, Kununurra and Broome this week, thanks to a special program travelling to centres to try to connect Aboriginal people with superannuation accounts they are often only vaguely aware of.
