Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan will be forced to travel to Sydney to give evidence at a defamation hearing brought against him by mining billionaire and aspiring parliamentarian Clive Palmer.

The defamation battle between Clive Palmer and Mark McGowan is due to start in the Federal Court in Sydney next month.. He will instead quarantine for 14 days under re-entry rules to the state. As a member of parliament, Mr McGowan is eligible to seek an exemption, but he will not. “The Premier brought an application in the proceeding, seeking permission for the Premier and Attorney General to give their evidence by video-link , or alternatively for the trial dates to be adjusted so that the Premier could focus on the current COVID situation occurring in WA and for any quarantine they would need to complete upon their return to Western Australia would not adversely affect their ability to perform their official functions, including attending Parliamentary sittings.
