The owners of apartments in the damaged Mascot Towers block in Sydney's south say new tests have detected a drop in the 'bearing capacity of soils' close to where cracks first emerged in the building

The owners on Tuesday claimed the developers building an adjacent apartment development were refusing to provide access to geotechnical engineers investigating the damage to Mascot Towers.

The owners are meeting on Tuesday night to decide whether they will fund the remediation works through special levies or take out a commercial loan. Some owners had advised they were unable to meet the payments required for a previously approved $7 million special levy.to prevent "structural failure" as existing cracks to the building widened and new ones emerged.

Aland has been contacted for comment. Managing director Andrew Hrsto said in a statement earlier this year that speculation about the cause of the damage to Mascot Towers was "unhelpful".

Funny how the Government loves to pack everyone in these trains like sardines while MOST of them drive (or are driven) to their jobs in a car. Hypocrites much?! If they can build tunnels for cars why not tunnels for trains? emmawhitecr *adds calendar entry for 2030
