by anti-lockdown protesters who sang the tune during a small flash mob at Chadstone Shopping Centre on Sunday.
"I’m personally concerned people will hear the song and think John Farnham is personally endorsing these protests, and in this case it’s not right," Mr Wheatley said."It’s something that John and I do not condone, the use of that song, particularly in a time in Melbourne where we are in stage four lockdown."Really, the last thing we should be doing is protesting, no one should be hitting the streets en masse, endangering people’s lives and livelihoods.
"I want to reiterate, we support people’s right to protest, but there’s circumstances where the protest can be done, and taking to the streets of Melbourne today is not it." "We will continue to take the same swift and firm action against those who choose to blatantly ignore the CHO directions," she said.
At least three public order response teams and numerous police cars turned up at the centre in Melbourne's south-east 15 minutes after the protesters broke up. Chadstone's security turned people away from the entrance of the shopping centre after the flash mob.One man was detained by police and led into the shopping centre. Police questioned the man as he was standing at a bakery with a shopping bag in his hand.
Once again SMH you pump out a dull story. The song is not the story. The story is why are these people protesting and what is the substance of their grievance. Interview one of the protesters, not the song writers manager.
Cringe
I don’t know what’s worse, the song or the people singing it.
Oh please.
Oh boo hoo!
Good Grief! People think the lyrics MEAN SOMETHING!! It's not a protest song, it's there to make money for John! He didn't ACTUALLY MEAN for people to refuse to live in silence or fear! Don't these people understand that aging lefties support the PRV? & what about the royalties!!
On a positive note, the “singing” was so awful as to make the song almost unrecognisable. COVID19Vic
'You're the Voice' was written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson. So Wheatbag can go suck it.
Breaking News, John Farnham's long time accountant has also condemned it, as has his personal cook and dog walker.
Not a bad rendition of the song by a group of shoppers who just felt like bursting into song simultaneously.
*sang...
Sang
Got nothing on Trump using Creedence’s Fortunate Son. A song that literally criticises draft (and tax) dodging millionaires sons. You couldn’t make this shit up.
Christ the pettiness in this is pissing me off no end. They were wearing masks and there was more journalists there than protestors!
Just to be clear, his manager doesn’t want people to use the song, but we don’t know what John thinks... great obtuse narrative maintenance
John Farnham heard the voice and he didn’t understand them.
Raindrops falling on my head n sadie cleaning lady just don’t cut it but when the war is over and the pressure down he’ll see the age of reason 🤪
Oh please 🙄 that’s what the song is for!!
Didn’t the manager serve gaol time for stealing from Johnny?
Because he couldn't get royalties from it. Glenn Wheatley can get in the bin.
🎶 I’m not the voice try and understand it, shut the hell up, do I make that clear? Oh, whoa You’re going to sit in silence Otherwise I’ll bring the fear Oh, whoa🎶
The tax cheat?
So artists produce their work to be enjoyed by a selective or exclusive group of people. Get real.
lololololol thats a shit pancake
Please enlighten us have they broken any law singing the song ?
