Melbourne’s summer of sport is grappling with alarmingly low security guard vaccination rates, prompting concern fromorganisers as the Andrews government discusses mandatory COVID-19 shots for major event workers.

The state recorded 423 more COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Wednesday, and Victoria Police Commissioner Shane Patton announced Melbourne’s public transport network would shut on Saturday to prevent people from going to a lockdown protest. More than 2000 police will patrol the CBD in what Mr Patton called “the biggest game in town”.

Vaccinating guards is made difficult because many large security companies subcontract to smaller labour supply firms to provide the staff, meaning the parent company often has minimal relationship with the guards who wear its uniform.

paulsakkal If you actually did your job with some proper due diligence you'd become aware of the fact that the 'double jabbed' are just as likely to carry & spread the virus as the new un-vaxed scourge of the nation. Eg :

paulsakkal Security guards in Melbourne are overwhelmingly younger males from the northern suburbs. Their access to vaccination has so far been limited. Vaccination rates will inevitably rise as the access improves. This is a space filler of an article.

paulsakkal How’s this going to work at hospitality venues in general? Can I ask the security for their proof before showing mine?

paulsakkal Like this is the biggest problem facing melbourne major events.

That's wonderful news. They could probably dial it back a bit if the govt dropped all Covid lockdowns & restrictions and started speaking with positivity about life in Victoria, instead of threats & violence from the police. I imagine most people would feel a whole lot better counselling is treating the symptoms. It has limited effect until you address the problems
