Owners of the world's largest lithium mine predict production can top 2 million tonnes if expansion projects get the green light from shareholders.

Professor Wills said while China was"making stockpiles of lithium" which would likely impact"balance sheets month to month", continued strong growth in demand for the mineral would continue to work in favour for Australian-based suppliers.

"There has been no slowdown in the production of electric vehicles, therefore the growth of demand for the resource of lithium will also continue.
