Crossbench senator Jacqui Lambie has demanded the Federal Government forgive Tasmania's $157m social housing debt before she commits to a proposed tax cuts plan. AusPol 9News

That's one-thousandth of the value of the tax cuts.

Senator Lambie said there were thousands of Tasmanians waiting for public housing and many sleeping in cars, parks and tents in the middle of winter. The debt was incurred between the 1950s and 1980s when the Tasmanian government borrowed money to build public housing. The pair of Centre Alliance senators are almost on board but have a few final details about gas prices they want to sort out with the government to make sure any tax cuts aren't gobbled up by higher power bills.

Someone explain to this fool that the government can't wipe debt from states that state's have spent on their own debt ! ,........please educate this dope!

VERY shortsighted!

Phoning a friend, no answer.......

Good on ya....Don't stop there. The Target should be the Reserve Bank. It needs to be Regulated, Gold brought back. It's the People's Money and it should be backed by Gold & Silver.

Well.. at least shes fighting for tasmanias best interests

Bloody politics. Stuff her, this idiot is a Federal Senator and should be acting like one, not blackmailing the government. This sort of shit shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

SHARON!! ... Oh, sorry. Not Ozzy after all.

I understand she has to do what's right for her constituents...But as Federal Senator, she should be more focussed on the best outcome for Australians. JacquiLambie

Sounds like a reasonable request

$157 mil for $150 odd billion... seems a fair trade off

You have a history with sidelining with the labor government 🤔so with be watching with baited breath senator Lambert.

This is what sickens me about politics. The blackmail in order to get things done.

Labor prepares to back Coalition's $158b tax cut packageLabor MPs have returned to Canberra following their election loss with a warning to new leader Anthony Albanese that the party's position on the tax package is depriving it of political oxygen. Morrison needs to stick to all or nothing, and let silly Labor and the cross bench parasites carry the can. 👨‍🌾 Totally. And it will bite them on the bum at the next election I would benefit from it, but I would prefer they not pass any of it than pass all of it.
