Deputy Prime Minister M_McCormackMP has accused Labor of being “a little bit xenophobic” in its pursuit of Liberal MP Gladys Liu.

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has accused Labor of being “a little bit xenophobic” in its pursuit of Liberal MP Gladys Liu. Labor demanded Ms Liu front parliament to clear up questions about her alleged links to the Communist Party of China. The Member for Chisholm told Sky News on Tuesday she was never a member of organisations linked to the Chinese communist party, a statement she walked back on a day later.

Speaking to Sky News host Chris Kenny on Thursday, Mr McCormack admitted Ms Liu’s interview on Sky News was “a little bit clumsy”. “Perhaps her comments to Andrew Bolt were not well put, but every politician, everybody who has ever appeared in front of a TV has probably said things that were perhaps a little clumsy, she’s a new member of parliament,” he said. Mr Kenny rubbished Mr McCormack’s defence of the Liberal MP, saying her comments “weren’t clumsy, they were 100 per cent incorrect”.
