ANALYSIS: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers are facing a crucial political moment - and it all comes down to tax.

among the group of “Five Eyes” economies of New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and United States.Rod Sims, this week said personal income tax had been “maxed out”The International Monetary Fund, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and former Treasury secretary Ken Henry’s 2010 tax review for the Rudd government have all repeatedly urged this.

Sims and Fraser both say times have changed. The electorate may be more open to super profit taxes on resources companies and a carbon price, given households are hurting from rising energy bills and are more supportive of action on climate change. There are political risks for Labor in fiddling with the stage three tax cuts. Albanese campaigned on integrity at the election and hounded Morrison for being a so-called liar.

It is ironic that the government wants to increase childcare subsidies for families earning up to $530,000, but doesn’t want to return “bracket creep” to workers. “Four have young kids, so saving is difficult. None of them are remotely wealthy. And they work ridiculously hard. And they just get slammed with tax. Most of the major parties would have you believe they are rolling in money, which is a very long way from the truth.”

“Defence spending will rise 4.4 per cent per year over the same period,” he says. “We’ll also see spending grow by 12.1 per cent per year for the NDIS, 6.1 per cent for hospitals, and 5 per cent for aged care.”

Albanese on 'being economically literate'The Prime Minister said he was 'being economically literate' when quizzed about whether comments he made during a speech were laying the groundwork for changes to the stage three tax cuts. The Liberals refuse to see what's happening in the world around them, that's far more dangerous I think he meant illiterate? Meanwhile many opinionators in this neighbourhood seem to require assistance with their economic literacy.

A familiar, dirty old smell has returned to politicsLabor’s argument for curbing the stage three tax cuts has some merit, but it should have, and could have, been made before the election. *groan* Labor’s argument was ‘we’re going to implement the stage three tax cuts’ They also has ‘a plan’ I understand why you didn't include the writer's name. No prizes for guessing who wrote that rubbish.
