Labor's climate policies left voters 'confused and scared'

Federal Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon wants his party to adopt the Government's climate change targets, arguing the Opposition"confused and scared" voters with its policies at the May election.Joel Fitzgibbon wants Labor to adopt the Coalition's plan to cut emissions by 28 per centOne Nation attracted a swing of 21.6 per cent in Mr Fitzgibbon's NSW seat

Mr Fitzgibbon is from the party's right faction and represents the NSW electorate of Hunter, where coal mining is a major industry. He will argue even the most progressive Australian voters could be fearful of change if it threatened their financial security.

wait a minute, the ABC says 77% of people want urgent action on 'climate change'? so they would vote Labor and the Greens? right? wrong! the LNP won, so fake polls folks, fake polls...

BWAAAHAHAHAHA!

Labor's selling out made them an easy target

He should join LiberalAus then

fitzhunter is completely out of step with the majority that want coal mines mothballed. He should be helping to build a new green future for his present and future electors in his electorate. He's fighting for the past but the future. BadLook

no - the Liberals lied their way into power by scaring people - Labor needs to hold its nerve and stand for something - otherwise their base will leave them

at d last election climate was front n centre then Fitzgibbon nearly lost his pants in Newcastle so now he is backing coal mining What a turn coat? now he is coal miners' apologist

What have this vicious, trash Thatcherite LNP done to the ABC? This is Channel 9 level brain-smoothing propaganda.

There a committee looking in to Alp policies I suggest you leave it to them fitzhunter

Who ever thought labor would betray their base of blue collar workers.

We weren’t confused. We voted against the policies. Why won’t the Left ever admit its failures?

So basically Joel sees Climate Change as nothing more than a political stance. It's existence is based purely on how many votes are in it. pathetic

Shorten & Labor were confused & deluded. Why would anyone vote for uncosted stupid 'policies' ?

Yes, voters thought they had finally got a major party to see the light on fossil fuels... then the one idiot with a vested interest of keeping his seat, because fitzhunter needs support of Hunter Valley big coal, likes to mouth off on national TV instead, and screws it all up.

Ditch both, we should have a 3rd option at the polls, a vote of no confidence in politics pit forth as opposed to having to vote no matter what, they're public servants not glorified unquestionable leaders

Rightfully so

WHAT? The only confusion was that they sat on the fence with Adani instead of rejecting it.

fitzhunter Really. May be You should consider Joining the lnp

Didn't realise that the AustralianLabor party still had relevance. Maybe the nutter greens will become the opposition at the next election. Australia auspol

Really? Wow... just wow...

Why don't you tell the truth. They had no policies, budged ones anyway. Cost didn't matter remember?

Lolz, Good Old Joe.

The very same policies being pushed by TheirABC's Apocalyptic Doomsday Climate Cult

Yet another example of ALP trying to join the coalition. What is the actual point of Labor any more? auspol LNPlite

I thought the whole idea was to do what was right for the planet, the country and its people.....apparently I was wrong. Not happy about this 'roll over' attitude.....if this is how he thinks, he needs to go. We need conviction and commitment and the courage to do what's right.

Climate change is a lot scarier than Labor's policies. Amazing that a country that will be so badly hit as Australia is still suffering from this deluded inertia.

'Absolutely correct': Bob Brown's anti-Adani convoy hurt Labor, says Richard Di Natale'People in the coal industry know that these jobs are going. They understand that and they are being treated like fools by both sides of politics,' says Richard Di Natale. I love how people like him, to accommodate their argument, assume they know what everyone else is thinking Coal jobs are going nowhere. It is only RACISTS seeking to deny children of colour in the developing world from having a better standard of living that are seeking to stop coal mining. Follow the money .....
