NT independent Jeff Collins says the CLP Opposition, in collusion with the Labor Government, moved to have a committee he chairs shut down in order to punish him for allegedly leaking politically damaging emails.

An independent Northern Territory politician has accused the Labor Government of colluding with the Opposition Country Liberal Party to shut down a committee he chaired, in retribution for allegedly leaking politically damaging emails and criticising the Government.

Jeff Collins said he left Parliament on Wednesday night and was unaware the Opposition had taken the unusual approach of raising a motion to dissolve the Harm Reduction Strategy for Addictive Behaviours Committee that he chaired."I really found it quite amazing [the Opposition] moved the motion," he said.

"I have my concern about some form of collusion between the Opposition and the Government. I was shocked, but not shocked that [Labor] did it — these are spiteful people. "I expected the ability to defend the committee, it's doing some fantastic work that really is needed and will save lives, but this Government has shown it is not interested in saving lives, it's more interested in political payback."

Mr Collins will lose $32,000 a year, which he was paid for chairing the committee on top of his salary as a Member of the Legislative Committee .

you cant have party's and democracy they are mutually exclusive, we have elective autocracy party's only allow a token amount of independents to create the illusion that theirs a merit based system in operation rather than a club of corrupt coneys

Just watched your news, seems to be a propaganda channel for the LNP with 3 shaky negative stories on ALP & none of course on LNP. Fortunately their ineptitude shines though & they’re gone soon.

Spiteful people he says... in light of the Liberals Royal Commissions into Labor PMs and Unions...Pffft
