The identity of a University of Melbourne academic sentenced to 10 years' jail in Iran has been confirmed as Middle East politics specialist Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert.
"We believe that the best chance of securing Kylie's safe return is through diplomatic channels," they said. A colleague who worked with Moore-Gilbert in 2015 and asked not to be named as association with her may put his own safety at risk, said she was aware of the dangers she faced but was cautious.
"Assange, being on bail and currently launching his appeal against a British court’s recent ruling that he should be extradited to Sweden on sexual assault charges, was prohibited from speaking about the case or his legal troubles," she wrote in the Western Advocate.
Boy is she going to get it. Hope her politics were anti Middle East culture and politics, otherwise she's in for a real woke moment.

Quite apart from the charges leveled at her, what the hell is she doing in Iran in the first place? Not a smart move.
Iran is a monstrous country ruled by monsters. Evin prison is hell on earth, notorious for torture, rape and murder of women prisoners. She will be living in appalling conditions and will be lucky to survive.

I feel very much for her family and friends and mostly for Dr Moore-Gilbert. This experience could break a person, and there is a very real risk she may be severely traumatised for life.
