BREAKING: The NSW Supreme Court has refused permission for a Black Lives Matter protest to proceed in Sydney tomorrow, but activists have vowed to march anyway.

The NSW Supreme Court has refused to allow permission for a Black Lives Matter protest in Sydney tomorrow, as activists vow to march in defiance of the order. from the state's Supreme Court to stop Saturday's protest going ahead, arguing the demonstration would breach coronavirus public health orders.

"For the court to authorise a gathering would amount to a defiance of a judgement that has been made by ministers of the government and the public health officials who advise them."Scott Morrison compares Black Lives Matter protests to Anzac Day, urges Australians to show 'respect' and not attend Mr Dungay Jr's mother, Leetona Dungay, said she was going to march on Saturday"whether they like it or not".

Earlier, protest organiser Faith Black from the Indigenous Social Justice Association called on Australians to"work together" to end Indigenous deaths in custody.

So they should. PowerToThePeople

This is starting to look like a set up for the protesters to come out looking like perpetrators of a crime. Not cool at all

nakarithorpe Courage people. My heart with you.

Permission

So 10,000 People would Spread the VIRUS. But MURDOCH and NSW want the WLD Border Opened to 100,000 Southerners. HELLO. Wake Up this is MURDOCHS Trying to Get Rid of LABOUR in an Upcoming Election

Do you mean the one at Sydney Town Hall 483 George St, today Sat June 6th, 3-5pm AEST – ‘Stop All Black Deaths In Custody: Vigil for George Floyd’? That protest?

Everywhere in the world governments accept peaceful protest but NSW want to stop black lives matter protest march. Unbelieveable

S.A. has given the green light to protest, but no-one mentions it. It's as if it's deliberate. Just more inconsistency and confusion. No-one could possibly govern so badly. It's a farce. 'Protest here .... but not there... protest in this state ... but not that state...'

And watch this, aboriginal people get the virus and die (because they are most vulnerable) they will blame the government because of their own actions that lead them to get the virus in the first place 🙄

They should march. Let’s see if there is a ticket box for the NSW’s Government to make money. Because everybody pays. We know that if police have to be there for an event, someone somewhere will have to pay.

Black lives matter but visit an aged care home and witness if business models and big corporates care about any human life?

Today's BLM rally 2day will show the same respect to the police , no wounder the police have to do what needs to be done to control this rent a crowd

Will only 500 people be allowed in shopping precincts? blacklivesmatteraustralia

1) constitutional right to protest 2) how is this breaking Covid when schools operate (to no apparent increase), shopping centres are packed (to no apparent increase) and restaurants/pubs, NRL and sport going back? Once again GladysB can we just have some consistency?

They could just walk to the nearest footy game waving placards in one hand and game passes in other.

The fascist NSW police have been itching for an excuse to unleash on a minority group ever since the 13 yro global warming protest incident. Get ready for many $1,000 fines and arrests to the most disadvantaged people in our country blacklivesmatteraustralia

Where is the organised activism peacefully pushing it's point? A single national organisation seeking to influence governments on indigenous affairs. Nowhere! Instead it's just fragmented rabble organising rallies, during a pandemic, on the back of American events Do better!

Sorry but these protests have lost me and the cause. All lives matter. No human deserves bad treatment, period

Governments shouldn't be able to use a crisis to squash freedoms. It's a slippery slope. In this case I think supporting the global BLM movement is extremely important. I hope everyone still exercises their right in a safe and peaceful way. For our democracy.

We have no lawyers (few good ones) or judges left, all bought by LNP.

The indigenous ppl of this country snow need permission to protest in their own country. Our gov is to busy supporting the Hong Kong protest.

If it's good enough for the anti-vaxxer, 5G, anti-lockdown morons, then it's good enough for protests against a real cause!! Can you remove all the caravaners, renters, and multitudes walking the streets of my small coastal town please GladysB & ScottMorrisonMP please? 👨‍✈️☠

BLM is becoming a fascist movements. Simply not abiding to the laws like fascists used to do.

Bad habits are caused by blindly spoiling and not teaching.

They can expect arrest and very heavy jail sentence if they’re seen as having kicked off a second wave. Not smart guys, hold off for a few more weeks.

The Supreme Court and the brutal police can’t cancel our constitutional rights. It’s democracy and it will contour to be!

nswpolice How many assaults of people at the rally will we see now? Are you going to be checking in regularly with your officers to ensure they are having ‘good’ days and can manage to do their jobs? davidelliott auspol

Good, throw them in jail

Fine the lot of them if they breach distancing laws and number of people in a group. One rule for everyone or we forget the rules altogether and the pandemic returns. Your choice.

Presumably the same rules will apply to Hillsong gathering in early July?!?! Watch this space! COVID19Au ScoMo auspol NSWpol BlackLivesMattef

NSW parents are forced to send their kids to schools despite the risks of coronavirus in the crowded classroom. The government relaxed all restrictions for economy. Now they say covid19? It is disgusting. blacklivesmatteraustralia schoolsreopening

MifWhy I hope there’s plenty of cameras to show how well our police act😧this is against our constitution, doesn’t matter if pandemic or not, it’s not an actual law made in parliament🤨if police manhandle people they should be charged, and hopefully it will be getting recorded😧

Please dear aboriginal brothers and sisters im not aboriginal but I believe all of us are from one god. Australia the land that is your home.Friends Now is not the right time to protest Australia is really going through THE PLAUGE. Aboriginal people are kind loving good ppl🤕🙏😘

Send in the riot squad, keep our city vermin free

Lock em up- follow the law

You should NOT BE PROTESTING EN MASSE IN COVID19aus . We locked down the NT TO PROTECT OUR FIRST NATIONS. We aren’t out of the woods yet. Every doctor in Australia is weeping. auspol

As time deaf as BobBrownFndn convoy to Queensland during the last election. There is a better way to make a point

Arrest them then. Or all covid restrictions have been for nothing

Well, they should be treated like anyone else... Fine them if they exceed the gathering limits currently in force...

State transit should close all the stations nearby - so the 'protestors' can't get there

I’m all for the cause. I will even March but the timing isn’t good. Shutting down has been hard for me, my business and my friends. I’ve really struggled so to come out of this to protest defeats what I have lost in the last couple of months. Wellness of Australians black & white

These fuckers are going to put us backwards after weeks of lockdown. I'd rather see the economy get back to normal first then protest.

Look at these whinging commenters!! 😀😁😂 A couple of weeks ago they were all crying because their precious sport was canceled and gathered to blame 5G for covid. Now that a legitimate gripe has formed and it’s not theirs..” “waaaagh! The rules!!” Weak..

This cannot be used as an excuse for the police to attack peaceful protesters.

Please explain why non indigenous deaths in custody are double triple the total deaths of Indigenous for the last 30 years? AllLivesMattter

The people smell the double standards, NSW.

I work with covid19.Would you want me to be there? No of course not..do I want to?Yes. Do I want to spend the next 6mnths testing people 10 days straight because we can't think of a smarter more effective way to protest. No. So Who can you pass it to? blacklivesmatteraustralia

A police force with a brutal past runs to the Courts to silence voices..

That is irresponsible and actually makes me mad. Not only will they place their own health at risk (probably more so given the likely health vulnerabilities) but everyone else’s life at risk. It’s an important issue but it’s selfish to go ahead now. Find another way to protest

Australians have the right to protest. Like the Hong Kong protesters and US and all around the world it is their democratic right to protect freedom and the right to stop rascism.

This is our White failure. First Nation's people are 3% of population. Courts rule on legislation. We need politicians who will; Legislate the 21C relationship we want between our elected representatives and our Policing forces, instead of the 19C one our Courts subject us to.

So Covid is over? All good then....

v_langeberg Recipe for agro, jus sayin

Change doesn’t happen by court order lol

purple shirted Karens are going to be angry

And please God be fined or arrested. How dare you be so righteous that your cause is more important that people loved ones funerals, their weddings, Anzac Day, Easter, Ramadan.

Good thing we're not asking, we're telling you

Because whitelivesdontmatter to those blacklivesmatter people (apparently). Makes me wonder who the real racists are. auspol vicpol nswpol

Under the protest RIGHTS of the Australian constitution yes they have the freedom to protest. Everyone please for your own power read the Constitution, start learning it as it is like a bible. The CONSTITUTION over throws any Government Prime Minister or President remember that.

Chrisquirk Dont see an issue with it, why ban it? Everyone will be wearing masks, hand sanitizer etc. What makes the NRL so important if Covid19 is the true meaning behind this decision?

Is this the same gov that let rubyprincess dock? Using worry about covid-19 to stop March is a tad hypocritical even for this lot of clowns

Fantastic

That's pretty damn inconsistent from the TPTB. It's almost as if they WANT people pissed off. ScumMo a little too influenced by Dickhead Trump, perhaps? Gives orders to Koala Killer to inflame tensions beforehand? Honestly, the LNP couldn't be more debacle-prone if they tried.

So is SBS promoting the potential for mass fatalities here, or confessing it was rubbish all along. Are they idiotic ideologues, or are they just liars tired of lying?

But they will allow people to attend the NRL. It doesn't make sense...

Can anyone advise what was being protested?

If covid19 surged due to their crowd protest, then they don't regard any on the frontliners...... how sad that they can also be killers....

Well done Gladys on the mixed messaging.

Cue the leftwing tantrums...... be aware , they are prone to violence .

Who pays the legal fees?

If the police do not stop this march it will prove that there are rules for some and not for others.

Selfish, naive people will still march.

Let them get the virus

Ok. I’m conflicted.

Stupidity and selfishness. We are still in the pandemic.

I’m not marching, and I don’t think it’s a good idea due to COVID, but this goes against everyone’s basic human right to protest and GladysB can get fucked.

Single file. 1.5m apart. Take your sign megaphone and wear exercise cloths. Beat the government at their own game. If you can protest without mayhem and no one getting a fine you’ve won. Good luck.

If they think this is so important and more important than the sacrifice the ordinary Australians have made so far to get us here with virus spreading, why didn’t the protest happen say last year? I totally support their cause but not the timing.

AnthonyCole68 March anyway

But as of next week fans can attend NRL? GladysB also says it’s safe & demanding QLD open it’s borders. What is it GB, safe to travel to holiday homes & watch sports but not for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to protest for their rights and equitable treatment?!

Where's everybody's outrage at the football returning? Come on people, grow the hell up. educatedontdiscriminate

The logic of not intervening with an anti-vaxx protest the week before, when they're a group that has never taken the virus seriously, is actually dumb-founding.

whatnowau I saw people protesting about freeing Dom in the middle of the pandemic. Why was that was allowed? Can't have people protesting now though, it's too dangerous they say. Even though shopping centres are packed to the rafters with no social distancing observed. 🙄

wear something over your faces yall

So is it safe to open up the borders, GladysB

NSW Govt has made this far far more complicated and tense then it ever had to be. They have created a double standard with last week. They now appeal, through censure, to an undesirable troublemaker who’ll march to provoke. Really, really badly handled by the authorities

And let's see NSW Police escalate this when eleven people turn up tomorrow. Mass arrests and pepper spray will look fantastic on the news tomorrow. And then wave the bloody corporate crowd through to the footy next weekend 😡

Aussies have never capitulated to the law that wasn't fair! We make our own rules as we see fair! 🤣

March? How about stand at the end of the driveway like Anzac Day? Why do BLM think they are above the law?

This is going to get so messy 🙄

Bring a reusable shopping bag for if you get stopped by the police. NoJusticeNoPeace blacklivesmatteraustralia
