Julian Assange has won the right to ask the Supreme Court to consider an appeal to his extradition to the United States.
The point of law raised by Assange’s team was “in what circumstances can an appellate court receive assurances from a requesting state which were not before the court of first instance in extradition proceeding”.In their reasons, the Justices said that “it does not appear that the Supreme Court has considered the question”.
Stella Moris, fiancée of Julian Assange, outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday, 24 January 2022.“What happened in court today is precisely what we wanted to happen,” Stella Moris, Assange’s fiancée said outside the court.“The situation now is that the Supreme Court has to decide whether it will hear the appeal but make no mistake, we won today in court.
Assange is wanted by the US Department of Justice on 18 counts over the leaking of hundreds of thousands of classified cables obtained by hacking more than a decade ago.
Hos own vassal govt has done nothing for this political prisoner
No other case in press freedom, especially in Australia, should be more important and news outlets around Australia should be mentioning this everyday, creating more sense in people of how disgusting this case is; putting some pressure on politicians.
This is a horrendous and clearly absurd case of political persecution, bluntly and clinically rubbed on our very faces. Julian faces the greatest villain of all times: US military industrial complex and its lapdog propaganda media machine. Free Julian Assange now. FreeAssange
Will the judges for the new hearing be as biased as those before, making it impossible for Julian Assange to get a fair go.
Shame on UK gov to allow our Australian award winning citizen to be kept in UK jail for more than 1000 days w/o any charges just for hom showing US military war crimes. Shame on you UK government and shame on Australian government for failing to protect our citizens!
