A Federal Court judge has ruled a Tamil family can remain in Australia, pending a full hearing into the case of their two-year-old daughter. The development came one day after the family was awarded another last-minute injunction, which gave the four another 24-hour reprieve to allow the judge more time to consider his decision.
Nadesalingam and Priya fled Sri Lanka and arrived by boat separately in 2012 and 2013, settling in the Queensland town of Biloela. The couple had two daughters before being moved into immigration detention in 2018. Advocates have urged the Coalition to let the family stay, despite a series of courts having rejected their claims for asylum.
Ship them out ASAP. If they're allowed to stay we will be flooded with boats and people drowning at sea again.
