Former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce has suggested two people who died in the NSW bushfires 'most likely' voted for the Greens as he criticised the party for arguing that climate change policies and unprecedented fires were linked.

"What I wish [Greens MP Adam] Bandt would do is not try to extend this argument to political purposes ... to make these spurious links, that a policy change would have stopped the fires is so insulting and just completely beyond the pale.

"To say that a policy that is conducted in Australia from a room in Canberra, where 76 out of 150 will vote for it, will change the bushfire season is an absurdity and erroneous and it is completely misleading because it's going to have no effect on the climate whatsoever."Mr Joyce's controversial remarks come after Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Tuesday said politicians should not debate climate policy while emergency services conducted an "operational response".

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack on Monday said the Greens were "inner-city raving lunatics" for discussing climate change as fires spread across the state. "We've had fires in Australia since time began, and what people need now is a little bit of sympathy, understanding and real assistance - they need help, they need shelter," the Nationals leader told ABC Radio National when asked about climate change.

"They don't need the ravings of some pure, enlightened and woke capital city greenies at this time, when they're trying to save their homes, when in fact they're going out in many cases saving other peoples' homes and leaving their own homes at risk."

What an abhorrent and insensitive claim. What an insult to the victims family and to all those who have perished during bushfires. This is our government. What a disgrace! barnabyjoyce

You have to applaud the Greens for closing most of the national parks for future generations, pity it will all be scorched earth just like their brains, will they be funding all the rebuilding of all the properties destroyed

If we ever needed more evidence that this pathetic man has lost the plot, this is it. Making derogatory comments about dead people, without knowing their voting history, and doing so for political reasons is an absolute disgrace. Barnaboy should be censured and sacked. Foul.

How to bruise the broken reed.

This may be the most un-Australian thing anyone has ever said.

Good grief. The mind of this man is a sewer

He didn''t actually say that. Because of where they lived he made the suggestion that they might vote for the greens and therefore he was not going to criticise the greens. there is actually nothing wrong with that. It's just bumbly Barnabie. stop trying to cause grief

Ah, ‘there are none so blind as those that will not see’

Muppet

How utterly ignorant can you be? People died and you have the nerve to say that?!

One of Australia's worst ever grubby detestable Politician! Every time Barnaby opens his mouth, he spews out lies, mistruths and political propanganda!

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Can someone put a muzzle on this dog

He’s an idiot

Wow are we turning into America where other party followers are now the enemy instead of human beings?

Every country has 'em.

This guy has to be sacked for sure, what an absolute disgrace he is, the prime minister has to take a stand or is he too weak. 🤬

Barnaby_Joyce you are a grub!! What a disgraceful thing to say.

AndyMaherDFA this is the sort of stupidity and “dickheadness” that you should be shaming not “thoughts and prayers” that people are genuine about in their care for those who were lost in the fires. This is someone who believes that “thoughts and prayers” are pointless too.

Lost for words - seems to happen on a daily basis at the moment. How can the leaders of this country get away with this type of disgraceful behaviour?

Piss off to obscurity Barnaby_Joyce

Has come out to ‘clarify’ what he really meant yet?

Get back under your rock Barnaby

Green regulations have certainly cost many lives in Australia. Look at Black Saturday Kinglake Victoria.........near 200 dead and restrictions on clearing. Green loonies.

This as they say, is beyond the pale. It doesn't matter who these people voted for. They're now dead. To make political milage from this tragic outcome is utterly indefensible. You should apologise Barnaby_Joyce. TI auspol Disgraceful Not good politics ScottMorrisonMP

Barnaby_Joyce Shame on you

SkotiD75 'Thank you for calling 000 If you vote LNP dial 1 and your personalised first responder will answer immediately If you vote labor dial 2, leave a message, our one call assistant might respond soon (bus hrs only) if you vote green hang up now'

A comment worthy of Alan Jones. Well done Barnaby!!! You are in classy company now.

That’s crook

He won’t lose any votes over this statement, because that’s how his supporters think. Sad. Very sad.

This clown needs to be kicked out of office. He is a disgrace to his family and the country.

What the actual fuck?! I don’t believe this ding dong speaks for all conservatives, but I think it’s time conservatives cut the fat that’s eating away at their party! This man is disgusting and taking you for a ride!

Ffs that can arsehole get any lower?

What a disgusting failure of a human this man is.

Disgraceful. He should resign from parliament immediately.

Barnaby should possibly have a look at the 11000 experts would were expressing a Smart Decision in relation to Climate Change that seem to be ignored till now? Barnaby it may take a while for the facts to be taken in but it is possible? Help is out there. abcsydney had coverage?

I D I O T. 😡

Such a classy lad.

ScottMorrisonMP show some leadership and condem these disgraceful comments!!!!

Well I’m glad we’re not politicising the bushfires

It's straight out of the Trump playbook. I thought Australians were smarter.

Even if those who perished did vote green, that's their Democratic right and for Joyce to suggest a link is reprehensible. How the f*ck are people like this in parliament?

What a truly disgusting thing to say.

I see. So we’re meant to destroy all our bushland and wildlife because pollution and excess carbon emissions have made our climate so hostile that NATURE is basically a tinderbox waiting to explode. Righty-o. “The Greens” 🤔 What should people do just concrete over it?

Such a lovely man.

What did he say I feel sick.

It is ‘sick’ that the Greens are ‘exploiting’ the bushfires | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Andrew Bolt says Greens MP Adam Bandt “is a fool” when it comes to climate science.\n\nThe Greens co-deputy leader has been criticised by Coalition MPs after he accused the government of “putting people’s lives at risk” due the government's “addicted to coal.”\n\n“We have always had bushfires in this country, we have always been a country of droughts and flooding rain, but the question is, why would you want to make it worse?” Mr Bandt told Sky News.\n\n“People have tried to put the government on notice that there are things that they can do to minimise risk and they have done nothing.”\n\nMr Bolt condemned anyone attempting “to blame these fires on global warming and the government”. \n\n“So what Adam Bandt and the Greens say is the answer to bushfires, [is to] cut our emissions [and] shut down industries,” Mr Bolt said.\n\n“These people are in fact exploiting tragic bushfires to push their fake scare and peddle their totally fake cure”. \n\n“This is so sick,” said Mr Bolt. \n Your entire organisation makes the anti vaccination lobby look like NASA. That's being polite. Andrew Bolt should ask Bandt whos payroll he is on 😉
