The recall comes as Johnson & Johnson fights thousands of lawsuits over claims its baby powder product was contaminated.

Johnson & Johnson has recalled a single batch of its baby powder product in the US as a precaution after government testing found trace amounts of asbestos in one bottle bought online. It added it was looking into whether the tested bottle found to have trace amounts of asbestos was counterfeit or authentic

The recall comes as Johnson & Johnson fights thousands of lawsuits in which plaintiffs claim its talc was contaminated with asbestos and that it caused ovarian cancer or mesothelioma, a rare cancer linked to inhaling asbestos fibres. The talc is then crushed into a white powder and purified for use in personal care products to absorb moisture.
