Sky News host Peta Credlin says while the government is focusing on the increase of JobSeeker by $50 a fortnight, “predictably” the welfare lobby is focussing on the cut from mid-pandemic levels.

The Morrison government announced on Tuesday it would raise the rate of JobSeeker by an extra $50 a fortnight after it slashed the rate which had been doubled to $1100 due to the pandemic. The $50 fortnightly increase is expected to cost the taxpayer $9 billion over four years, and it brings the welfare rate to 40 per cent of minimum wage.

“Predictably of course, while the government's focussing on the increase, the welfare lobby is focussing on the cut,” Ms Credlin said. “Let's never forget the dole is not supposed to be a ‘living wage’. The 'minimum wage' is meant to be a living wage but the dole's purpose is as an income supplement to tide us over between jobs. “This is where the welfare lobby gets it badly wrong. No one who is capable of work should expect to live off the taxpayer.

Peta Credlin the people on Job seeker shouldn't have to live below the poverty line , you try it see how you like it.

Its nowhere near a living wage, no where near a min wage peta. Can we just raise it over the poverty line? $478 a week is where it should be.

The poor & pensioners are treated by govt as economic pawns. When the economy is stuffed, govts throw money at them but when back to normal; pensioners are treated with disdain. Some respect & recognition of value to society wouldn’t go astray.

SkyNewsAust is a hard right propaganda platform disguised as news

How much does Peta earn People in a high place shouldn’t judge people in lower places !!

It’s a pity PETA isn’t over 55 and unemployed then she’d live off jobseeker

Cool guess I'll die

Life costs more money.

What does Ms Credlin think about the “corporate JobKeeper bonus” being retained by businesses like Eagers? Or is she a shareholder? ScottMorrisonMP JoshFrydenberg more interested in corporate welfare than social welfare or a decent JobSeeker safety net! auspol

If you could live comfortably on the dole I would give up work tomorrow.

Maybe you should have welfare lobbyists on your show to discuss this, unless you're too cowardly to actually say it to their face

Predictably? YES BECAUSE THEY ARE SANE! Government and their not living wage packages - death plans!

Why do you give her a platform? She’s awful.

There’s and big difference between a “living” and “survival” wage. Job Seeker hasn’t even reached a survival wage. I tried to live basically on Job Seeker a few years ago and it was impossible. PEta, have you ever tried to live on Job Seeker......no I didn’t think so.

Who’s peta and why would anyone care what their opinion is?

Have lniwn many persons on the 'Dole in my life & most could not wait to find a job The idea that there a huge number of 'bludgers' sitting around spending immense amounts of disposable income on avocado toast is a bullshit PR campaign Work means income, income means tax geez

Poida Cretin.

pete of credlin

If New Australians and those on visas can get jobs, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be unemployed for months on end.

Predictable response from a receiver of welfare from our government

Yeah the 'Welfare lobby'... those people who actually care about other people unlike CredlinTheCretin who only cares about herself & sucking up to RM. auspol

Who?

Credlin is demonstrably incorrect. Welfare *is* supposed to be a living wage - by definition.

The $50 per fortnight boost to JobSeeker will take Australia's payment from the lowest in the OECD to the second-lowest after Greece… Who can possibly be proud of that?

Welfare? Like giving juicy government contracts to LNP donors? Joss have the contract to maintain government buildings in NSW no competition? Free market?

Credlin. Typical Credlin. She has no capacity at all to understand situation of others. She is a danger to workers, families, the aged and those who are currently unemployed. Such a dark and shriveled heart!

why doesn't she shut the fuck up instead

She sounds like a beast

She wouldn't last a fortnight on welfare. Would love to see her try it before criticising it. That low rate is literally keeping me stuck in the rut I am in

Never heard of her.

May it be because the mid-pandemic levels are the only ones that keep people out of poverty and therefore the only ones that actually give us dignity and help us find work properly? Bullshit reporting. 80aDay.

These helots should know their place.

Prior to the pandemic most economists, the RBA, ACOSS and even John Howard were calling for an increase in a base rate that has not been adjusted in over a quarter of a century. I do not think any of them would have expected this obscene low amount and insult to human decency.

Peta Credlin.... yep....no idea, compassion or empathy.... yuck!

Deloitte and PwC both recommended $75-$100 per week, It was a couple of years ago - it would cost $3-4bn but ADD $4-5bn to the economy

At $3.60 per day its not going to be a vote winner. As regards taxes, News Corp do not pay any local Aussie taxes, about time they did.

What happens in a cycle of poverty i hear the empathetic people at Sky News ask. This is what happens: People lose the ability to get to work. They lose the ability to pay for car rego. Or buy a $500 car. So they go to Aldi and buy a $5 bottle of port, costing the gov more.
