Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny may still be imprisoned in Russia but it has not stopped him being awarded the European Union's top human rights prize.

Imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, President Vladimir Putin's main critic, has been awarded the European Union's top human rights prize.The 50,000-euro prize will be awarded in the December 15 session of European Parliament in FranceThe EU has sanctioned six Russian officials over the attack on Mr Navalny; Russia denies involvement

Europe calls for his — and all other political prisoners' — freedom," it said.Mr Navalny survived a Soviet-era nerve agent poisoning while on a domestic flight in Russia.
