Ardern grew up in the Mormon church, and describes her younger self as "an angsty teen who wanted to change the world", a goal she seems on track to achieve, having gained global prominence for her compassionate leadership style following the Christchurch mosques massacre in 2019.

Jacinda Ardern pays her respects at a Wellington mosque after the Christchurch mosque shootings last year. After that gig Ardern wanted to have a gap year or two, but rather than pull beers in Shepherd's Bush or fire-twirl in Koh Samui, she worked in a soup kitchen and on a workers' rights campaign in New York, before finding her way to London, and into a job for then British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his successor Gordon Brown.

This scenario is known as a "glass cliff" - where women are given a shot at the top job just when an organisation is tanking and things could hardly get any worse. Her press conferences announcing her second wave response have been clear yet compassionate, with Ardern saying it is "totally understandable" people are feeling anxious.Good politics may not have been the aim of Ardern's strategy but they have been its byproduct.

Being trigger happy and idealistic while completely ignoring pragmatism might seem great in the short term but locking down the country every time their is an outbreak will cause long term economic and mental health damage.

Well done to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden. Only a few world leaders that put citizens first, then economy nor used Covid19 blame-game, as political tools. The economy can be revive but the dead cannot.

One government, no senate, horse face could shoot every positive case and the left would be praising her. Just admit her strategy has failed and she has screwed the country worse economically than Australia has

Fuck off with this fawning, she's incompetent, thick as shit and arrogant beyond belief.

闫丽梦博士接受Warroom采访(重磅)here

She is a total psychopath. Her job is to break New Zealand into a million pieces and she's doing a fine job of it. Her and Dictator Dan must've gone to the same evil villain training camp by the look of things.

ScottyFromMarketting and koalakiller will never learn, they have to be dragged into even doing a mediocre job.

One of the good things about people in NewZeland they listen & respect each other & JacindaArdern as they know they have to work together to beat the spread of coronavirus auspol NZPolitics wapol ABCnews wanews nznews TogetherWeCan publichealth lockdown lockdownnz

Why is there even a comparison? NZ is smaller than NSW in population and economy so stop comparing the 2 countries. Let’s look at realistic comparisons and leave NZ to do what they think is right

Can we have some balance here. Their testing numbers are no where near some of the top testing nations. 104k per million compared to Aus 202k per million population. Why wasn’t enough tweeting done for the last few months when it was ‘eliminated’?

She didn’t have a game of footy to go to?

She knows the truth, it is about the economy, and the people are the economy, not banks and giant faceless corporations. When people are sick and dying, scared and worried they don't spend money, when they are healthy, happy, and have enough money to live they spend money nzpol

Good to see Australians just want to sit at home and collect their $750/w, paid for by those still working and a few generations to come.

I’m pretty sure she would have tackled Princess Ruby cruise much better than Scomo

A puff piece celebrating her ‘decisive but empathetic decision to shut down the country and economy’. Like it is some kind of genius. That elimination is some kind of viable option, end game. Not a single comment on the state of nor the impact of this strategy on the NZ economy.

If she was in charge in Victoria and NSW we wouldn’t have this mess

jacindaardern is an amazing leader and PrimeMinister putting all nz residents first. She understands “go early and go hard”. nzlockdown AucklandLockdown Hope people live in nz are going to be fine.

Not hard

She has been a great leader through this. She hasn’t gone on holiday or to the footy. Even if the numbers spike higher she will manage it well.

It’s no so much the Australian leaders, but the “don’t tell me what to do brigade.”

There’s no comparison

No Murdoch, no problems.

Going into lockdown because of such a limited number of cases isn’t a sustainable policy, these aren’t actions worth celebrating.

She is an amazing Welsh New Zealander unlike the useless Anglo Australian Andrews!

I guess in NZ you can afford to lockdown and do nothing for months on end as nothing really happens, here in the west we have stuff to do

Lucky for NZ & Jacinta she doesn’t have to deal with a federation of States! 🙄 😒

The ridiculous lording of this woman is nauseating.

Labour’s elimination strategy will not work

The lunacy and panic.

Oh please. It is an easy decision of labour governments to lockdown and smash small business, families and mental health. This decision is purely political

This is what sets Australia and New Zealand apart. They make those tough calls.

yet still can't see the paycut, and still mumbling on about testing all people coming into the country and not doing it...

Oh for fuck's sake, locking down countries over a virus is not medical, it's lazy ignorant melodrama and refusal to admit the virus is not much of a thing.

From poster child to Lockdown 2.0: Inside NZ's no good, very bad weekFor 102 days New Zealand was the global poster child of the COVID-19 era. But what does a new wave of infections reveal about the effectiveness and sustainability of the Ardern Government's elimination strategy? Really? I'd much prefer to undergo this pandemic under Jacinda Ardern's leadership than Scott Morrison's, Boris Johnson's and Donald Trump's lack of it.
