Dima Abdu and her family had no idea the tower block they live in had been locked down until hours after it was suddenly announced by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Saturday. Some tenants of the nine Melbourne towers found out about the lockdown after it was announced to the mediaTenants are worried about the potential backlash from the wider community who might blame them for the outbreak

"We almost felt like everyone else in the state and city was being addressed at the same time and that was disappointing," Ms Abdu told 7.30.The 21-year-old student only realised what had happened when her mother, who was out, phoned her between five and six o'clock."I realised we were in complete lockdown, as in, can't go out for exercise, can't go get groceries or any essentials either — that surprised me.

The Abdu family live in one of nine tower blocks, housing 3,000 public tenants, which have been shut down. The Victorian government is concerned that may increase, and wants to test every single resident over the next three days. "I don't think we have an issue with the complete lockdown, we don't even have an issue with police presence," Ms Abdu said.

Sooner or later we all be in the lockdown. We know this is hard but it’s for your own good.

I suspect street crime has drastically reduced since the lockdown.

'Why is this happening to us? Are we different? Do we happen to be a different class of people?' Yes you are! You live in the same high density buildings that are a high infection source. Now spare a thought for those workers/volunteers who are tasked with looking after you.

the towers are densely pop like Grenfell tower multiplied by 6 blocks Big ethnic ghettos In Paris d housing is similar they breed youth crime gangs It seems we r following Paris So many muggings carjacking n home invasion

Law suit!! How is this not discriminatory? An entire state kept down, spat upon because of a few hundred infections? Out of millions? “You can’t come in because you’re Victorian”. “You can’t come in because you’re black”. What’s the distinction? The Net effect is the same

This virus is causing hardship. The lock down, though harsh, is meant to save lives........show the value of support structures. When will we learn? Its a disgrace, and should be taken to court for improper use of power SBS should stop shit stirring. You know the virus needs to be controlled before we end up with numbers equal to the UK or US. Yet you continue to stir the pot. Dan Andrews is doing an excellent job by the way!

Thousands raised for Victorians trapped in public housingJust hours after Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews locked down nine public housing apartment blocks, almost $120,000 has been raised to help support residents who are no longer able to leave their homes. How could DanielAndrewsMP lock down Black people like this? Doesn't he know that blacklivesmatter rules the world? I think he should resign for being so racist. They don’t pay rent . Great work Australia! Actually the Chinese Communist Party has started a bio war against the world half year ago! We must take action or get killed by CCP.

Rent waived for 3,000 Melbourne public housing tenants under hard lockdownVictoria records another 74 new coronavirus cases overnight as Premier Daniel Andrews announces the tenants of nine public housing towers placed under hard lockdown will not have to pay rent for two weeks. They probably never pay their rent anyway. Question for the ABC. I agree both premiers are responsible for each debacle, but during the Ruby Princess debacle, most of the story photos were oh the cruise ship and not of GladysB . Why are you only showing pictures of DanielAndrewsMP here? Is this not a form of media bias? Stands to reason not to charge rent. Prisoners aren’t expected to pay rent.
