Home-sharing scheme helps the elderly and young as NSW government tips $200,000 into a pilot program pairing elderly homeowners who live alone with young people struggling with housing affordability.

Cristina Andrei has no family members in Australia. But the 33-year-old from Romania has found a new grandfather thanks to a home-sharing scheme that pairs elderly homeowners who live alone with younger people struggling with housing affordability.Jean Dubourdieu and Cristina Andrei at their home-share in Sydney.

Ms Andrei pays about $125 a week to share Mr Dubourdieu’s home, with the cost comprising $100 to cover the costs of running the program and $25 for utilities. Ms Kestermann said the program has flow-on effects to the wider community, including keeping older people in their homes for longer and out of aged care."I do think we’re less connected to our physical neighbourhoods and we’ve become more focused on productivity - those informal things like connecting with our neighbours, we’re not doing that as much. I think it's a shame," she said.

Alister Henskens, Minister Families, Communities and Disability Services, said the program is beneficial to the wider community.

So we want to keep old people in really large homes much longer while younger families struggle to afford the same house that is designed for them….I thought we had a housing under supply problem?

This is going to end very bad

Need to be so careful with this

How does Centrelink view this in relation to the income and assets tests?

Great initiative by NSW government, win win situation for young and old alike

NSW home quarantine trial a ‘big step’ in transitioning away from hotel quarantineThe NSW minister for Jobs, Investment and tourism!!! And you want to trust that guy with setting up a quarantine system No vested interests there..hey. Only 7 days home quarantine, despite a 14 day incubation period!! Very agenda based. And not health based. Typical. Most people can’t abide by the rules of lockdown. What makes you think they will quarantine at home. The cats out of the bag now. Best manage it with testing and iso when infected. You will have more deaths though until your vax levels increase.

NSW considers letting fully vaccinated travellers to quarantine at home for ChristmasFully vaccinated people returning to NSW will be able to quarantine in their homes by December if a new trial proves successful, raising the likelihood of stranded Australians making it home for Christmas. Morrison said all will be home by last Christmas. should be zero requirements for quarantine, its pointless in a majority vaccinated society, waste of time & money & resources. Brilliant. Fully vaxed people, particularly fully vaxed younger people are not burdening the health system. Time to rejoin the world.
