The cost of the east coast bushfire crisis to insurance companies has surpassed that of Victoria's Black Saturday fires, making it one of Australia's most expensive fire events on record.

The cost of the east coast bushfire crisis to insurance companies has surpassed that of Victoria's Black Saturday fires, making it one of Australia's most expensive fire events on record.

The figures were shared by financial services firms JP Morgan and Taylor Fry on Tuesday as they shared details of an annual survey of insurers that found climate change was the most pressing issue for the industry, as it faces a $2.1 billion claims billThe report, written from the results of a survey of major underwriters, re-insurers and brokers, said climate change had placed "significant pressure" on the industry and criticised the government for its lack of action in the space.

Cyclones, flooding and hailstorm events are the most problematic for insurers, with bushfires historically making up only 13 per cent of natural peril costs. "For every extra degree [of global warming], it's not a linear relationship. It's an exponential relationship," Mr Parameswaran said.

Australians back climate change action while science divides along party linesThere was no spike in concern about climate change after the summer bushfires, despite claims the emergencies would be a 'wake-up call' to galvanise political action, new research has found. “'They rejected the idea of paying more for electrical power or petrol, or more tax generally, except for one Greens voter in the Melbourne group,' There is no hope for sensible policy on climate change. The denialiasts have successfully muddied the waters so much that people don’t believe it’s happening and don’t have a clue what should be done There is no division along party lines. According to the stats YOU quote in this article, less than a quarter of LNP voters had doubts about the science, and less than a tenth of Labor voters. That's not a division; that's a clear, bipartisan majority of belief in climate change.

Politicians told to ditch partisan bickering and act on climate changeScientists despairing over the deadly bushfire season sign an open letter to Australia's leaders calling on them to abandon partisan politics and take action on climate change. They can't even say 'climate change is caused by CO2 emitted by human' loud and clear in public. They are like a six year old kid admitting stealing cookies. The LNP would collapse of they had to start considering pesky things like science and facts, not gonna happen. Thoughts and prayers for all! Eugh, can you stop with the 'politicians told' No. One side of politics is ready and willing to act on climate change. The Liberal/Nationals party however has held Australia back for a decade. It's the right wing of Australia who need to start acting like 'adults in charge'
