Like many other farmers in NSW and Victoria, Mr Sargood decided to take on the challenge to help diversify his farming business, adding a high value crop at a time of drought."It's a little bit out there at the moment, but it's got the potential to fit in as a normal rotation for a lot of people," he said.

Palla Pharma, formerly Tasmanian Poppy Industries , pushed regulators to allow poppy production on the mainland as a way to spread risk and better secure supply."We're dealing with very experienced farmers," Palla Pharma's director of agriculture Michael Long told 9News. Like many other farmers in NSW and Victoria, Richard Sargood decided to take on the challenge to help diversify his farming business.
