Macquarie Bank CEO Shemara Wikramanayake says increasing immigration would be a viable way to help Australia cope with the economic fallout of the novel coronavirus.

She said the solutions for the current economic crisis would be a focus point of Macquarie Bank’s Australia 2020 Conference .

She said boosting the population would provide opportunities for economic growth in a variety of sectors. The comments come after the government predicted net overseas migration will fall to just 36,000 in 2020-21 - down from 239,600 the year prior. Image: AP

An even better way to ensure coronavirus continues in Australia.

And we see all of the international companies loosing money crying to rip off the Australian people even more. Haven’t you done that for long enough! We are closing our doors and employing our own.And starting to manufacture here maybe should make money out of building Australia

I wonder if this muppett shares in Australian values

Maybe get the aus citizens working againknuckle heads

It's amusing to see the mind explosions when right-wingers that follow discover what capitalist systems are built on 😂😂😂

How about hell no

Blowing into his own sails. Nevermind the nation and ordinary Australians

Of course a banker would say that, millions of Australians are sick to death of living in the middle of a ponzie scheme

Stupid comments. Wake up Australia.

What a load of s, look after Australians for goodness sakes. There are lots of Aussie's who will need jobs don't bring in more workers!?

It's artificial way to prop up economy and it can do more damage then good. Getting more people into this country is not the answer. Actually emigration needs to be cut down and also should be reset for the future so we can decide who is getting in. We need to pick and choose.

powerglobalus Bullshite. Hire citizens.

Bull shit start manufacturing for self reliance we do t need overseas people here not even leading our Banks

🤦‍♀️

No thanks

Looking to bring his 400 cousins over....

Ha ha that’s the only honest post I’ve ever seen you make , hilarious.

jetjackson20 Great idea. Keep us locked up and broke (Not allowed to travel overseas) and bring in people from overseas to take our jobs and use our healthcare system. I can't see any issues.

John Smith would disagree with him.

In other words, the ponzi scheme must continue

Wank on !

Dear sky I can no longer listen to the tripe put forward on your channels as comment or opinion, are those people taking LSD or Acid before they start because it looks like it. Why can't you get someone like Peter Chambers Wombatfinance to come on at least he has an idea

Dear sky news, let me tell you here at the bottom of the waste heap things are worse than rotten, the smirk on the PM's face and a new suit and tie everyweek saying we will help only to make the rules impossible, and the poor mum and dad businesses that the banks and govt shun

Dear SkyNews you did not ask the Mac Bank CEO just how bringing more people into the country with no jobs and over a million unemployed and a further 2.5 million underemployed is going to make things better. How about putting to them about helping people here now.

Within reason and with targeted migration for those who work in fields where we are lacking, sure. Those wanting a closed border utopia indefinitely are basically wishing for a banana republic.

CEO of private company's are the enemy of the local citizens left wing nut jobs .

Hahaha wot can you expect from the Mac Bank. Just total dribble from a person on a multi million dollar take home pay. Cut the present intake by 90%. Jobs for Aussies is tantamount to success.

Talk is cheap. She is a banker if her kind is interested in improving Australia's economy, bring all the call centres and processing centres back to Australia.

They don’t work

powerglobalus WTF! Are you ppl stupid? What is the unemployment rate?

Yeah of course it will babe !!! More banking, mortgage, share trading, insurance clients etc for the mighty Macquarie Bank to rip off.

A bank talking up a Ponzi scheme. I’m shocked...

We have a few out in West Melbourne that we would be happy to share with the rest of Australia 🧐

Looks like another quotas appointment with 20 letters in your name

Tell her we don’t want to be like Europe and in a complete mess

Of course he does 🤪

This is the only route worthy of consideration.

What absolute unmitigated madness.

The economy isn't everything. Happy to live more modestly to protect our way of life!

Piss off Shemara

Nobody really believes this.

Insane. Enough stupidity from the wealthy.

Idiot

No thank you!! We are full!! Think of a better idea over paid fuckstick.

How left wing?

Welfare Budget 2019/2020 $192,000,000,000 and rising ..

I would hope international borders remain closed until firstly a vaccine if found and our unemployment numbers go down to where they were.

True. America got rich because of immigration.

Hell NO!!!

Crap, a lot of migrants end up on welfare, or that's the only reason they migrate in the first place.

Will be interesting to know who funded this series? 'Dead Zone' TV show from 2003 mentions coronavirus, talks about the Hydroxychloroquine being the cure. Please look into this!

We have to open borders first

Significantly reduce Shemara and her associates wages and bonus would be a welcome boost.

No thanks , resident itself don’t have job. Wht immigrants will do

Real message: don’t worry about social disruption and overburdened public infrastructure, well make 💰!

Shemara? Good Aussie name 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not in a million years! Greedy new comers completely out of touch with Australians 😡

You have GOT to be kidding

Code for: let’s keep the wage bill down so we can screw the ordinary worker. These people are scum.

NO!!

Surely has to be a giant wind up

Yeah there’s an idea let’s let our banks dictate about immigration ffs

Thats a big NO from Australians here........we can handle it from here

With unemployment expected to be upwards of 10%, how does bringing in more people to join the line at Centrelink going to help? Asking for a friend...

Great - our children are out of jobs and this token female CEO says we need more immigrants. NO WAY.

migration has to be limited and then ONLY for those that can contribute, assimilate, identify and became fully Australian in the true sense of the world. Multiculturalism is failed far left/socialist/Marxist idea that doest not work and simply creates crime infested ghettoes.

No thanks, get the unemployed AUSTRALIANS working again even before we look at this. Look Australian manufacturing & this equals jobs for Australians.

Absolutely not!

No thanks

Beneficiaries are the wealthy.. Increased upward pressure on rentals, increased consumer demand for commodities & food & downward pressure on salaries & services. If this logic were sound poor countries would be inviting millions to improve their economies

Get Fcked !!

How? Increased unemployment! Higher taxes? Lower standards of living! Pfft. Stop all immigration & anyone not an Australian citizen from being able to work.

No thank you.

$$$$ over happiness

Sage advice from an English born (Sri Lankan decent) person that got paid around $AUD18,000,000.00 last year. Plenty of Australian citizens already that need jobs first who don't want t be replaced by immigrants.

What’s the point of boosting migration if there is a lack of job availability? We’d just be importing welfare dependants.

Ummmm....no.

Doh. Really.

Be a good idea to get our citizens an PR home first. And thats a no to more immigration you arseholes.

Yeah NO THANKS!!

The profit the banks make from lending to all the immigrants will trickle down to us don't worry. Finance capitalists are who really cares about us.

No thanks! Keep borders closed... reduce cases and get the economy back in track

Lol - ofcourse she would say that. Would you allow Tamil immigrants too?

Take ya bank and f$ off ya dog. Is that viable for ya?

Vested interest.

No thanks.

potentially importing more cases from countries less anal about lockdown
