Imprisoned Assange may face two-year fight against extradition l nickmiller79

Australia News, Australia Headlines

Julian Assange’s fight against extradition from the UK could last up to two years, and could involve Home Secretary Sajid Javid having to choose between sending him to the US to face hacking charges, or to Sweden for a rape investigation.

Assange was arrested on Thursday at the Ecuador embassy in London after his hosts cancelled his political asylum, claiming he had broken strict rules imposed on his behaviour and actions. But a Swedish woman who claimed that Assange raped her in 2010 has formally requested that prosecutors reopen their investigation, which was put on hold in 2017.

"We urge you to stand with the victims of sexual violence and seek to ensure the case against Mr Assange can now be properly investigated." Ben Keith, a London barrister specialising in extradition, said "since there has clearly been cooperation with the US it seems unlikely that the Home Secretary would choose Sweden to go first".

It was a cover-up so America could get there hands on him. He will not get a fair trial in America. he should not even be sent to America, he is an Australian citizen, Australia bends over all the time to America, who think they are the law of the world. sounds like yet another dems setup

BarnsGreg Julian Assange is also an Ecuadorian citizen and a recognised diplomat of that country, not sure why the Australian government has to give Assange any special treatment. NickdMiller Wikleaks lost any credibility when it tied itself to Putin & became a dirt file unit for Trump & other authoritarians jaraparilla NickdMiller Almost the whole truth. Some glaring omissions of facts eg INA Papers weren't published by WikiLeaks; JA hasn't had phone/internet access for a year so he couldn't possibly hack Moreno's phone etc; Sweden did interview JA and subsequently closed the case due to lack of evidence.
