Opinion: I thought I was safe to walk the beach with my daughter, then the police came | KaseyEdwards

Both police officers were nice about telling us we were breaking the law, but it was frustrating to think that the only reason we were breaking it was because we didn’t know about it.

Rather than being allowed to walk back the way we came, the police officers ordered us to walk up onto the footpath — a narrow strip of cement where it was not physically possible to maintain an appropriate distance from all other people on the path. If we’d all been allowed to walk on the beach there would have been a far greater distance between people and therefore a much reduced risk of spreading infection.A"beach closed" sign in City of Port Phillip.

KaseyEdwards The most annoying thing here is that you ARE flaunting around the rules with your daughter. The day after they announce beach closure you decide that you should walk her down there. You're just wanting something to happen so you can write about it - we all see it. Shameful.

KaseyEdwards Theres no confusion. Do what the authorities say......then we can get on top of this pandemic and life can return to normal. The longer the morons dont listen the longer this will drag out....then the morons complain its dragging out too long.

KaseyEdwards I can't believe that the 2 police would find this a risk ?

KaseyEdwards Beaches are bloody closed. Why is she allowed? I've been staying at home

KaseyEdwards Yesterday they said beaches are not for groups and fine to go for a walk on haven’t watched any news today went for a walk not a soul on the beach so badly wanted to dip my toes in the water it was so hot but I stopped myself as I saw a sign saying beach closed! ☹️

KaseyEdwards A frankly bizarre article. Ignorance of rules, regulations is not any form of defence.

KaseyEdwards Slow news day...? or The Editor has left the kids in charge?

KaseyEdwards The beach is closed. You don’t have to go to a beach to go for a walk. There is no beach near my house but I go out for a run every day

KaseyEdwards Power goes to the head of some jobsworths.

KaseyEdwards don't go to the beach, is it really that hard to understand

KaseyEdwards Safer to head to the shopping centre for a jigsaw...

KaseyEdwards Stay at home ffs people that simple..im sure a couple of weeks without the beach wont kill you ...

KaseyEdwards News just in: the rules apply to everyone but me.

KaseyEdwards Ah well, at least you know now Kasey.

KaseyEdwards As coronavirus misfortunes go, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most tragic, this gets -100.

KaseyEdwards Don’t the Stasi understand many people are feeling very low, highly anxious, and the one thing that might pull them through is a solitary beach walk; not sure walking round the streets cuts it for mental health, and can’t see how it’s safer and quieter in built up city area.

KaseyEdwards The problem is you and everyone else who dont understand the meaning of Stay at Home all want to go walk their dogs or go for a quite walk along the beach. Try and be a citizen you will feel better and help contribute to everyone's well being. Don't and well you know how it goes

KaseyEdwards People are missing the point, the council listed it was ok to walk, swim but not congregate on the beach. That's why it confused the author. My daily beach walk has been a life saver. The rules were being obeyed, people social distancing. Today they closed our beach too.

KaseyEdwards This isn’t the type of news that needs reporting btw. I have kids who have cabin fever also. We go for a walk around the block with our dog. It’s not hard to understand. The. Beach. Is. Closed.

KaseyEdwards 'What will we do now?' Probs clutch her pearls and rail against male babysitters and trauma-inducing policemen

KaseyEdwards The problem is after the policy says ‘beaches will be closed’ it says they can continue to be used as a ‘thoroughfare’ - hence the confusion.

KaseyEdwards Not sure what the problem is—no fine issued, just asked to leave the beach (which most of us know are closed), Ok, thanks. Have a nice day. There will be teething problems. Relax—and just get on with it.

KaseyEdwards There’s nothing complicated unless you decide to “interpret” what is being clearly asked. Try “thinking” instead.

KaseyEdwards The left wing newspaper getting a taste of communism and doesn't like it. There's zero basis for any of these lockdown laws helping the spread of the virus. It's all about gov flexing it's authority.

KaseyEdwards I am absolutely astounded published this

KaseyEdwards Errr... beaches are closed. What’s remotely confusing about that?

KaseyEdwards You can’t walk or jog on the sand but any number of people can and do on the adjacent esplanades. Banning people stopping on the beach makes some sense. Stopping those walking or jogging through does not.

KaseyEdwards STAY. AT. HOME. 🤔

KaseyEdwards Funny how cafes, restaurants opposite beach were full of people that day Scam, revenue raising.

KaseyEdwards Which part of Beaches closed is confusing? If anything one of the more straightforward bits of information.

KaseyEdwards What don’t you understand about ‘beach closed’?

KaseyEdwards

KaseyEdwards I haven't found it terribly confusing to be honest. I just assumed that 'beaches will be closed' meant that you can't access them at all.

KaseyEdwards A bribe does wonders... how simple can it be.
