In other cases, the organisation continued to work with the applicant to try to verify that they were affected by the bushfires."We've had a very large number of applications that are either suspicious or we've been unable to verify the information that people have given us," Mr Clement said."We intend to go back through more of those applications to determine if more of them should be referred.

All Charities are a business, that’s all they are.

No one gives a shhhyyyte.

I don't trust any charities. I donated directly to a particular family, straight into their pocket.

plesbilongmi The bloody government should have used our taxes for what they're paid for, and helped people in need through the ATO and Centrelink. Relying on charities for disaster recovery in a wealthy country like ours is unconscionable. Use your brains Australia!

Maybe they should spend it in bushfire effected areas and then there is nothing for the scammers to pinch..... Oh that's right, already scammed and pinched... Maybe Robin Hood hackers? We can hope!

Hopefully now at least Australian Red Cross disburse the money to ones who actually need it for whom they raised it for, and for once do the right thing.

There must be a buck in it.

Help ones neighbour unless you're a charity then Rob you blind !! Should be laws against this kind of corruption !!

It’s crazy how the Chief executive gets paid £500k a year for the Red Cross

why isn't the money with the victims?

Black summer bushfire smoke killed nearly 450 people, royal commission hearsHealth experts tell the Bushfire Royal Commission smoke from the Black Summer bushfires that raged across Australia killed nearly 450 people and affected 80 per cent of the population. We may never get to know the full death toll from these fires - so many were affected by the toxic smoke. We lost a member of our community after he suffered a massive asthma attack. He had never suffered from asthma before. Calling it BlackSummer is racist! Coronavirus sceptics will say they died 'with' smoke in their lungs not 'from' smoke 🙄
