Other minerals are largely found within a group known as"rare earths" sporting names you may have never come across. Cerium, for example, is a rare earth element mined from the earth's crust that is used to polish smartphone touchscreens. To understand rare earths, you need to start with a paradox: they're not as"rare" as its name suggests — cerium is about 15,000 times more abundant than gold.
This problem is not one of supply it is one of having to admit that we outsourced pollution & need to bring production of everything back home but doing it in a more sophisticated & environmentally responsible manner rather than relying on the Chinese to hide it from the world.
