Victoria's cautious, gradual path to easing restrictions across the state draws fire from the opposition and publicans, who say capacity requirements will make it harder for businesses to survive. But the nurses' union says the slow easing is necessary to prevent nurses from facing 'impossible decisions' about who gets a hospital bed.

Mr Guy said the Opposition would propose alternative plans during the coming week that were safe, sensible and "commonsense based".

When asked about the availability of ICU beds for a surge in patients, Premier Daniel Andrews said 4,000 ICU beds was not what "success looks like"."We grow the system as the demand grows, as the need grows." The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said the organisation supported the emphasis on caution.

AHA Victoria president David Canny said livelihoods were at risk due to the decision making, and asked Victoria to follow the lead of states like New South Wales. "We are asking for consistency across our industry and country. We don't want Victoria lagging behind other states when we can be part of the solution to getting Victoria back on track."Owner of Turners Bakehouse Matthew James says lockdown has been very tough for his business.

The Property Council of Australia's Danni Hunter says the property sector is crying out for people to return to work.

What an utterly predictable article. Business wants to open immediately, medical people want caution, the Opposition hates everything the gov't does and the *one* family quoted is hopeful. In depth reporting at its finest...

One would have more confidence in the roadmap had the opposition supported the state Government roadmap in full. Instead mistrust and confusion stating they have a better alternative. To put it simply if you don’t put our health first, we will have no life and more covid variants

This should be simple, we should reach the 80% by the 5th November so anyone not vaccinated by then chose not to be. So we open up as these people chose not be protected. They looked at the facts believed the buuuuuuuuuuuuuullshit and now have to live with that choice. Reopen 5th

Yep, might as well shut up and throw away the key

The unvaxxed need to be made to stay in lockdown. Under Daniel Andrews' road map out of Covid-19, when people in Sydney are able to fly to Hawaii for a holiday, Melburnians will still be banned from travelling more than 25 km from home. ... the road is too long 😠😡 ENDLOCKDOWNNOW
