They could have stopped this any time. End the Ukranazi ethnic cleansing of Russians in the SE. Stop allowing NATO to install weapons of mass destruction including bioweapons labs along Russia's border. NATO uphold it's 1997 promise to not advance 1 inch towards Russia. Easy.
How much longer can Ukraine keep fighting? Despite Ukraine and the West not wanting to escalate the war further by firing into Russia, the Russian people have to be fully aware of the situation and if rockets end up hitting targets in Russia, then that might be what has to happen
USA should provide them with long range missiles so they can send a battery of them overhead into Moscow

Pres. Zelenskyy indicated he wants to end the war by mid-winter, and negotiates peaceful solutions with Russia, but Unfortunately US and NATO said Ukraine must ‘keep fighting’ because western freedom depends on Ukrainian people winning the war.
The longer the war is, the higher the probability of 'home team' will win (see Viet, Afghan x 2, Iraq) assuming troop agility is intact. Question is whether the cost of rebuild is worth that victory?
