China’s state news agency says Trade Minister Don Farrell will hold a video call with his Chinese counterpart in the near future.

| China will hold high-level trade talks with Australia in coming weeks, according to state media, boosting hopes that it will pave the way for the easing of some of Beijing’s $20 billion tariffs on Australian exports.

“The two sides made the agreement during a mini-ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organisation held here,”It is believed a firm date has not yet been set for the meeting, which is being viewed as the latest breakthrough in repairing bilateral ties. Assistant Trade Minister Tim Ayres said he met with China’s vice minister for Commerce Wang Shouwen on the sidelines of Davos where he said he raised the importance of removing the “current trade impediments” affecting Australian exports to China.
