Up to 30 homes have been destroyed or damaged by out-of-control bushfires burning in northern NSW.

Residents in Rappville, northern NSW, told Sky News they lost homes, sheds and cars to out-of-control fires on Tuesday night and were still fighting to save what was left of their properties on Wednesday. With exceptionally dry conditions in northern NSW and southern Qld, authorities have advised residents to prepare to evacuate.

Thousands of firefighters remain on the ground battling more than a dozen fires – which have burned through almost 100,000 hectares of land already. Meanwhile, a family home has been destroyed by flames during Tuesday’s ferocious blaze in Laidley, Qld, requiring 30 fire units to bring the blaze under control.
