Residents in Rappville, northern NSW, said they lost homes, sheds and cars to out-of-control fires on Tuesday night and were still fighting to save what was left of their property on Wednesday.

With exceptionally dry conditions in northern NSW and southern Qld, authorities have advised residents to prepare to leave.
