General Motors has blamed “highly fragmented right-hand-drive markets” for the downfall of Holden which will cost hundreds of jobs.

GM International Operations Senior Vice President Julian Blissett has released a statement explaining the financial woes leading to the demise of Holden. “Through its proud 160-year history, Holden has not only made cars, it has been a powerful driver of the industrialisation and advancement of Australia and New Zealand,” Mr Blissett.

“After comprehensive assessment, we regret that we could not prioritise the investment required for Holden to be successful for the long term in Australia and New Zealand, over all other considerations we have globally,” Mr Blissett. “This decision is based on global priorities and does not reflect the hard work, talent and professionalism of the Holden team.” The shutdown is expected to cost at least 600 jobs as General Motors ceases making vehicles suitable for Australian roads.

Are you saying that if it gets too hot in the kitchen ... we should use tax payer money to subsidise it

Good thing Ford, Jeep, BMW, Kia, Hyundai, Mazda and just about every other car manufacturing company are a lot more agile than GM and can cope with making something that’s not a big Left hand drive SUV

Well at least those of us who have late model Holdens have collector's items...bit of Aussie heritage. Good investment I'd reckon.

All cars sold in Australia are imported RH drive so I think there might be a bit more being left unsaid. If it was just the RHD issue there'd be no imports at all

No it’s because GM /HOLDEN took Australians for mugs. And they lost

Look Deeper.. Both sides of our government selling out Australian Businesses and allowing Industry to go Overseas since 'The Lima Declaration' was signed in 1986... Taking our nation from Producers and Exporters to Consumers and Importers..

Wheres the PM and McCormack to protect the jobs. Surely they must care. Its all about protecting jobs. Jobs must be protected at all costs. Wait, Nope, not mining. Workers are on their own.

They had no V8. That’s the reason no one bought that Eurotrash they forced on us.
