US regulators have approved the first ever medication for Alzheimer’s disease aimed at slowing cognitive decline, a controversial decision that delighted advocacy groups but defied the wishes of many top experts in the field. that pharmaceutical company Biogen would be able to sell its aducanumab medication, which will appear under the brand name Aduhelm.

The FDA has not approved an Alzheimer’s treatment since 2003, reflecting the high rate of failure for such medications. Ten of the 11 panel members voted that it was not “reasonable” to consider Biogen’s clinical trial results as “primary evidence of effectiveness of aducanumab for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease”.

The World Health Organisation estimates that 50 million people worldwide have dementia. Around 470,000 Australians are living with the disease, according to Dementia Australia.

The US is donating 750,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to TaiwanA bipartisan delegation of three United States senators have landed in Taiwan, announcing that Washington would donate 750,000 coronavirus vaccine doses to its ally. 750k from 50 M surplus.. That's ridiculous 😑 The media should mention that Senator Tammy Duckworth lost her legs to a grenade during the 2004 US-Iraq war. It was an illegal war. Folks should be reminded of the danger of escalating tensions between nations which can lead to another horrendous war.
