Highest daily infections to date: Vic records 317 new cases, two deaths | Sky News Australia

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed 317 new coronavirus cases in the state making it the highest daily infection rate since the start of the pandemic. Mr Andrews said it was “too early” to be moving onto stage four restrictions. “Now, I know there’s been a lot of discussion, a lot written and said about possible stage four,” he said. “There are no announcements to be made about that today.

“That shouldn’t be read to mean there will be announcements made tomorrow, we plan for every single contingency. “It’s well too early for us to be moving to a whole new stage.” Of the new infections, 28 are connected to contained outbreaks and 289 are under investigation. Victoria has 109 patients in hospitals with 29 of those in intensive care. The two deaths were both men in their 80s, taking the state’s total to 29.
