Mounted police, the riot squad and PolAir have been deployed across Sydney’s CBD to prevent a protest planned for the city’s inner west on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a Freedom Rally has taken place in Byron Bay with anywhere between 200 and 300 people taking to the streets within the centre of town.

NSW Police made several arrests and lined up on either end of Middleton Street to contain the protest to the town’s CBD. While Saturday’s police operation in Sydney appears to have prevented any protests, hundreds have gathered in Victoria to stage a violent protest which has seen clashes between police and activists.
