Experts fear Australia has acted too cautiously to avoid a horror scenario, but authorities say the country is in a better place than many | DeborahSnow

The event was high octane, supported by the US military’s Indo-Pacific command and Arizona State University with more than 200 participants, including senior government representatives from Australia, Britain, United States and Canada.

“I would rather be in Australia now [doing what we are doing] than in any other country in the world today,” he said. MacIntyre labels it a “debacle”. “It means there will be people without symptoms who are transmitting it, it’s going to be spreading silently throughout our community” she warns. “You may not see a hit on the health system for 4 to 6 weeks through a couple of incubation cycles. But that has compounded everything.”

Sydney University virologist associate professor Tim Newsome also doubts history will judge the country to have acted fast enough. “Will we look back and say we did enough? Our trajectory is looking disastrous at the moment.” Professor Raina MacIntyre, who heads biosecurity at the Kirby Institute in Sydney, says she's alarmed by Canberra's dogged determination to proceed by way of incremental steps. He says the case for more emphatic social and workplace restrictions remains open, but “the faster the acceleration in case numbers , the greater the weight of economic argument swinging towards that.”

DeborahSnow I hope the World learns from this Event; & puts 'Strict Processes & Protocols' in place. Quarantine All People on arrival from aeroplanes & Ships. Stop People moving around. Have enough, Food, Fuel Medical Supplies (in-house) for All its people. WHO needs better Communication.

DeborahSnow COVID 19 Actions Absolutely too slow, considering what was being seen in Italy & Spain. But it was the Cruise Ships debacle & people returning from Overseas Holidays via aeroplanes, & the Non - Isolation for min 14 days... That has caused Australia to be in its current position.

DeborahSnow It is taking too long to stop ALL entry into this country when so many are bringing the Virus with them.

DeborahSnow It’s been slow and a complete stuff up fueled by incompetence and uninformed decision making. Dogs breakfast of govt action who yet again think only if the budget.

DeborahSnow The govt has been woeful in its response but it’s fortunate that Aus has the advantage of the distances between the capitals, where the majority live, which gives it the greater ability to control the spread of the virus compared to more densely populated countries.

DeborahSnow While some of us called for total lockdown, while rest of us couldn’t be bothered with all this social distancing. Can’t make everyone happy, can you?

DeborahSnow To slow, inconsistent, not enforced. We pay for 3 governments in this country and when we need them most we get ZERO!!

DeborahSnow I wish ScottMorrisonMP had said I will fight for every ‘life’ instead of for every job. auspol CrimeMinisterMorrison HerdImmunityByStealth ScottyFromMarketing

DeborahSnow What experts would that be exactly?

DeborahSnow Australia response too slow. Act now or be sorry!

DeborahSnow Speechless to Aus government. It's all your fault.

DeborahSnow Must read: with the majority of expert advice to the government to lock down now, what is gov’t modeling that keeps us on a trajectory that reflects the worst cases in Europe and the USA?

DeborahSnow Are we doubling the infected numbers every 3 days? We expect to reach our peak in 21 days, it's 3180 infected cases today so at the peak it'll be somewhere 400000 infected, that we know of! How's that compare to the world?

DeborahSnow More crap from so called ‘experts’ at SMH. Their pathetic journalists are a disgrace. Creating panic seems to be their mantra.

DeborahSnow YES

DeborahSnow Slow! Nothing was done. All reactionary besides filghts being cancelled from Wuhan China.

DeborahSnow If you followed WHO guidelines, you die much earlier. Taiwan didn't follow WHO guidelines, it acted in advance of them. WHO guidelines have become jokes already. They are far too slow to guide; they warn you after it's happened!! WHO is C(China)HO in the eyes of many people!

DeborahSnow Governments can place as many draconian restrictions on the Australian public but ultimately its up to the Australian public to listen and stay the bloody hell home when told. Easy.

DeborahSnow Many Europeans and Americans thought it's like a flu at the very beginning and didn't take precautions seriously. Some govt only thought of 'economic' consequences of lockdown and acted slowly. If no life, where would there be economy? Stupid govt heads!

DeborahSnow Bankruptcy of leadership

DeborahSnow Complacency! Right, experts, disease doesn't come to western, especially Australia.

DeborahSnow Yes too slow and that's because they relied on so called experts who ignored history of knowing how virus spreads. They acted way too late to stop flights and boats.

DeborahSnow It is a measured, calculated and risk conscious strategy

DeborahSnow The experts and not the politicians are telling the truth.

DeborahSnow This is what happens when you have over price housing with half of your population having massive mortgages and no savings, casual workers ect. This is what the right side of government has implemented over the years . Economy with no flexibility.

DeborahSnow We have acted too slowly especially on arrival compulsory isolation, this will result in unwarranted deaths, we also failed to stop necessary items being sent out of the country & failed to take action early to get stocks of items. ScoMo & his mob procrastinate.

DeborahSnow Trust the experts. Authorities are full of shit.

DeborahSnow Experts are everywhere and half of them will ALWAYS be wrong: Economic predictions, climate predictions, election predictions and now pandemic predictions; the media has such a HORRID record of accuracy from their ‘experts’, it seems almost deliberate.

DeborahSnow Watching the actions politicians have been taking is like witnessing the start of a train crash. With u-turns, conflicting messages, Ruby Princess, dithering and inaction the train is still on collision course. They are always 2 weeks too late.

DeborahSnow No... feels like we are in a good place.. the ruby princess was the worst fk up

DeborahSnow Great headline if it was opposite day stupid

DeborahSnow The west care too much about their freedoms and governments are too scared to impose, and they are trying to tackle an pandemic with one eye on the economy. Why the asian countries have been so successful in stopping the spread. They don't care about all that.

DeborahSnow According to many, Australia is acting very slow. There should b a national lockdown for at least 15 days. This half-hearted action is going to cost us

DeborahSnow too slow

DeborahSnow 😂😂😂 said by who!!! Until 3 weeks ago no border protection or even fever check at airport.

DeborahSnow Morrison stopped travel from China 9 Days before the World Health Organization tells the world to stop travel Think about that, If he didn't do that where would we be today. And the World Health Organization chief urges countries not to close borders to foreigners from China

DeborahSnow Those with the Coronavirus should be put in Quarantine Detention, NOT the 26 Million Aussies who don't have it. As they did with TB, POLIO, Diphtheria etc.

DeborahSnow Yep, we should be in stage three already

DeborahSnow Infections are still doubling in a few days. Still exponential growth. We’re losing

DeborahSnow Oh , 2 weeks a go the same people were saying the government has done nothing to stop the spread of coronavirus,

DeborahSnow Strange headline - ‘cautious’ implies they have acted to protect us against the virus.

DeborahSnow Yes.

DeborahSnow Who do I believe, experts or the Lib/Nats’ random collection of authorities? Guess.

DeborahSnow Everyone's an expert these days. I'm an expert too!

DeborahSnow Sounds like a trump statement and now they have over 100K cases.

DeborahSnow So far so good. However, u can’t educate retarded Aussie to act normal.

DeborahSnow Difficult act to juggle the virus and impacts on economy...I don’t think many people would like that job....easy to sit back and criticize....and I don’t even like the PM

DeborahSnow I agree, whilst not perfect I think we are much better placed than most

DeborahSnow we should have ICU beds in convention centre UK is going just that

DeborahSnow Goverment is sorrounded by experts....who is right and who is wrong

DeborahSnow Iol so its a contest now?

DeborahSnow In a better place than many, maybe. But not in the best place we could and should have been in. So poorly and meanly led.

bencubby DeborahSnow Cautious a is the wrong word. The govt has been reckless and negligent in acting so slowly and against WHO guidelines.

DeborahSnow Extremely slow.

DeborahSnow We haven’t prevented a horror situation and it’s going to get more horrible.

DeborahSnow For infectious disease, it’s not about numbers. You have one today, you got 100 in next weekend. You have seen the result of ridiculous “self isolation” rule. One out, hundreds up.

DeborahSnow Better than many doesn’t mean good.

DeborahSnow SCOMO is really SLOMO!

DeborahSnow True, there's only a hand full of people that have got it no need to cause panic in the community.

DeborahSnow Why do you always say ‘experts’ without naming them? It wouldn’t be your opinion by any chance?

DeborahSnow Authorities?

DeborahSnow

DeborahSnow The danger is the economy will collapse. Even without shutting other businesses, everything is slowing down due to fear and uncertainty and too much talk about a catastrophe.

DeborahSnow They are lying

DeborahSnow You can still go to the beach so long as you stay 1.5 meters away from the sharks.

DeborahSnow This isn’t a competition we don’t want to be better off than others we want to be in the best place that is possible.

DeborahSnow It’s been too slow because Morrison and Murphy want this thing to spread

DeborahSnow For now ... and would you believe the script from our authorities ?

DeborahSnow When was this written? Some of the arguments seem out of date?

DeborahSnow Hope so this prove correct. Amen 🙏

DeborahSnow No..considering what's happening around the world..we are in a better position than other countries atm.yes..winter is coming..but.being prepared for winter will help slow down the flu and take precautions..

DeborahSnow HawaiScotty looking for the carpet 🤮ScottyFomMarketing

DeborahSnow Didn’t the SMH insinuate the PM was racist for banning incoming flights from China a few weeks ago.

DeborahSnow The country is in a better place than many - for now! Give it time as other countries thought the same and look where they are now!

DeborahSnow See UK anh NZ, that is quick.

DeborahSnow The response was quick the management of people at sea and air ports absolutely pathetic.

State and federal governments clash over 'beyond urgent' childcare bailoutAs owners of childcare centres warn the industry is in crisis due to coronavirus, state and federal governments clash over response plans at a National Education Council meeting. LNP govts are shown to be quite useless federally. The Howard govt had a roaring economy & able to throw cash around. The Fraser govt led us into the ‘83 recession. This govt slashes services & privatises everything. Any wonder at the first real test they are failing? ChildCARE involves parents lovingly raising and educating their offspring. Outsourcing parenting to minimum wage workers is child abuse.
