Brisbane cricket fans will have only hours to snap up a seat at the reduced capacity Fourth Test against India this week, as authorities wait to see if they have halted a potential COVID-19 cluster.

Brisbane cricket fans will have only a matter of hours to snap up a seat at the reduced capacity fourth Test against India on Friday, as health authorities wait to see whether they have halted a potential COVID-19 outbreak in the city.

With spectator capacity set to 50 per cent of the Gabba's 36,000 seats, the entire event is set to be re-ticketed less than 48 hours out from its start time. Australian fans watch a test match at the Gabba in November 2019. This week's match up will now only be open to half the capacity. All previous ticket-holders will be refunded and given an opportunity to repurchase the smaller re-release via Ticketek from 3pm on Wednesday to 9am on Thursday. After this point, any remaining tickets will be released to the wider public.

Queensland Cricket chief executive Terry Svenson said the outcome was welcome news for both fans and stakeholders after the two countries' cricket bodies, along with the state government and Stadiums Queensland, were able to work through the "many complex issues"."We look forward to welcoming the Indian and Australian teams later this week as they prepare for the final Test of what has been a competitive and exciting series," Mr Svenson said.

"While capacity will be reduced, there will still be ample opportunity for fans to enjoy the Test match. We encourage them to observe the recent protocols outlined today by Queensland Health, wear a face mask and get along to the Gabba."
