Sky News reporter Caroline Marcus says the government has been dealing with the cases of three detained Australians in Iran “for some time” and were trying to “keep it quiet”. A British-Australian blogger, who was traveling through Asia with her Australian boyfriend, and a female academic were both seized in separate incidents. and are believed to have been taken to Evin prison in the capital Tehran.

Ms Marcus said according to close sources to the government, they felt any publicity of the issue would jeopardise the chances of securing the release of the individuals. However, The Times in the United Kingdom broke the story on Wednesday about the arrests. It is believed the two women have been taken to Evin prison in the capital Tehran, which is notorious for holding political prisoners.
