Government warns of price hike if it listens to IMF's carbon-pricing push | crowedm

Credit:But Labor climate change spokesman Mark Butler cited the new report to emphasise the need for a "comprehensive climate policy" to reduce emissions, days after he faced calls from colleagues to accept the government target instead.

The report also says the $US75 per tonne needed to achieve Australia's carbon target could push retail electricity prices up by 70 to 90 per cent in Australia. The IMF concluded that retail electricity price hikes would vary according to a country's reliance on fossil fuels with an increase of less than 30 per cent in Canada and parts of Europe, compared to "between 70 and 90 per cent in Australia" and other countries that rely on coal-fired power.

CroweDM They said that last time and it was bollocks. When they cut the 'carbon tax' nothing got cheaper. This is the dumbest minister since Michaela Cash last week.

CroweDM Energy prices went through the roof after LNP scrapped Labor's so called carbon tax.

CroweDM why start listening to the experts now?

CroweDM So we'll continue to poison the planet to fill multi-national pockets?

CroweDM just like the government said it would promote competition between electric companies and make it cheaper for the consumer when they privatised them justsayin

CroweDM A price hike changes behaviour.

CroweDM The lying turd polishers are blind to new and future technologies at the behest of the coal/oil lobby who supply them with kickbacks $$$

CroweDM It would be so easy to introduce local solar hubs 4 electrical generation & distribution using urban rooftop arrays etc. The point of all this delay is that The Liberal gov. wants 2 support coal mining. Environmental & health damage from coal power generation is not considered.

CroweDM Oh look, there’s the Special Envoy to the Cayman Islands promoting coal again

CroweDM IMF the blackmailing money hungry criminals in the world

CroweDM Appealing to the greedy quiet Australians as usual

CroweDM Then don’t listen....

CroweDM Taylor talks horseshit everytime he opens his mouth AngusTaylorMP

CroweDM We listened to you guys and got nothing but price hikes, so why not give the IMF a go, can’t be any worse, good chance it’ll be better🤔

CroweDM In light of the IMF putting a carbon price on fuel maybe it would be a good time for the government to review the obcene amount of tax they collect from fuel & reduce it substantially.🤔

CroweDM Good looking dude, could be in a reality show like The Bachelor.

CroweDM Return to using glass bottles rewashed and reused, put nuclear power plants in slowing removing coal. Put highrise parking at stations so less cars on the roads (more trains & trams needed for this.) Push industry to make items that last longer again stopping appliance waste.

CroweDM :(

CroweDM Look, we’d like to do something to prevent a climate apocalypse and the end of civilisation as we know it, but frankly it would just make electricity more expensive and might even cause people to use less. And of course that is completely unacceptable.

CroweDM Fossil fools and their fossil fuels 🤷‍♀️
