The federal government has unveiled its new JobTrainer scheme, aimed at encouraging school leavers and people looking for work to take up courses in areas like healthcare, transport, manufacturing and retail.

Nearly 350,000 young Australians who face entering the workforce in a recession will be able to learn new skills for free or nearly free if states sign up to a new billion-dollar training deal.

"COVID-19 is unprecedented but I want Australians to be ready for the sorts of jobs that will come as we build back and recover," he said. The new National Skills Commission will identify which specific skills shortages they should address that will be critical to Australia's economic recovery.

We need people trained to support people with disabilities NDIS won’t work without the coal-face!

What about Expat returnees over 50’s who can train them?

It needs to have a clear alignment of the future jobs demand to the graduation of the course participants. It can be successfully managed by having business communities, RTO and government representatives to agree the goals. realisticOutcome positiveGrowth

They defunded TAFE, leaving everyone to be ripped off by private trainers, now they’re reinventing the wheel, to fix their own mess, when all that’s needed, is to increase TAFE funding.

This is patronising waffle. These are the people who defunded TAFE, now they are seeking praise fixing their own fcuk up!

We need: Jobswefuckedupon Trainingwefuckedupon Jobswewilldiefor Jobsforcapitalismssake

I’m going to assume this ‘training’ won’t include sessions on ethical behaviour or honesty. No one in this fed govt is qualified to train in these areas. Going to turn out a bunch of corrupt self serving individuals though...

How about instead of funding places for healthcare study for school leavers you actually fund healthcare positions in hospitals instead of slashing positions?! Those school leavers won’t have jobs to go to.

How many years back was this planned? Is introduction under Covid-cover a convenience? What part does this Cam what’s his name play?

This whole thing is a joke. You're seriously proposing teaching young people retail?! RETAIL?! And transport? Transport how? Driving buses? You kidding me? And don't get me started on healthcare. You are adding uni places and SLASHING the actual funding for each student!

This is again great initiative by By the Liberal government.

JulieHe40521540 Retail? There are many retail casuals who lost their jobs - this is so insane!

Is this available for the older generation too?

That is not useful. Government must be created the job by different way and encourage the economic growth!!!!!

The real benefit will be to the STATS, as those who take up these dubious offers, will be off the unemployment numbers.

Bullshite, LNP have destroyed TAFE and apprenticeships are nonexistent since the LNP have been in power. All I can say is, whose mates pocket is this round of money going into.

How about instead of this actually allowing under 22 year olds onto jobseeker instead of telling us at 21 years old to rely and live fully off our parents once we’ve lost our jobs in a recession?

Pathetic

High unemployed. Many Older women are unemployed. Mixed bag of training for what? This training seems to be aimed at distracting people from the fact that there are no jobs. Training for uni lecturers?

Stop student visas from working!

Yes. But will it happen. Can’t really trust anything that comes out of the mouths. And I really don’t understand why cash has even got a job. Or why she’s not doing jail time.

Oh nice. I'm sure that'll help address the 1.3 million unemployed people for 100K jobs. Great job.

There are no TAFE vacancies in any of the health and community services courses as of today

The same supply-side crap they should have abandoned years ago. As if the current collapse in demand for labour is in any way the result of a lack of appropriate skills. The federal government couldn't have any less economic credibility if they turned up in Ninja Turtle outfits.

ScottMorrisonMP and the LiberalAus cronies have gutted both TAFE and Universities. If they wanted people to be educated and trained they wouldn't have spent their time making it as difficult as possible to receive an education.

I'll take x1 machinist course Scomo, cheers. 👌

How do people always complain?

Or, just spitballing, maybe they could restore all the funding they cut from TAFE over the last 7 years? We don't need a whole new system, just fund the existing ones properly! auspol TAFE JobTrainer

Fund TAFE and University courses and degrees instead.

No marketing jobs? ScottyFromMarketting

This Job Trainer Scheme is the next stage (after massive price hikes to arts degrees and no Job Keeper for HE staff) in the privatisation of university education. Short courses and not deep broad learning. OutWithMorrison

Take 3Billion from TAFE, destroying 15,000 apprenticeships, handout 1.5B in business welfare; give 500M to states to then open that funding to private corporate thugs. Here we go again... herewerortagain

I’m sure I’ve heard this bullshit before...

Morrison’s new title - JobScammer

This is blatant LNP corruption. Where's the funding for TAFE TAFE TAFE TAFE TAFE TAFE TAFE you bunch of money grubbing pos.

*gets university degree* *NO JOBS* *here learn more skills because you cant find shit and are over qualified*

Cool cool. The essential worker industry’s that are essential but underpaid, have their wage increases frozen &/or laid off after lockdowns? Or maybe just unemployment, because there’s no jobs?

Complete waste of time.

JobTrainer sounds like a sex toy. Marketing... for the idiots, by the idiots, of the idiots.

I'd love to see big business and aussie unicorns like atlassian join this conversation and provide Self Service free online 'web based training' for key jobs they each need as a home made Uni / MBA / Data / Developer / Project Manager etc style series of courses to create jobs.

Wow I wonder who’s Job it is to think up these amazing “Job” names!

The problem is industries like manufacturing are increasingly being automated, retail is collapsing, healthcare not properly funded... There are more people looking for work than there are vacancies. How about a program that encourages businesses to hire more people?

FewingsBj after systematically dismantling TAFE and apprenticeships the LNP makes a huge show of providing training opportunities get the historical detail correct

Like I haven't been doing courses for years in order to get a job... It doesn't matter if you lack the experience companies demand, what a fucking waste mate

Absolute stupidity. ScottyFromMarketing proposing to flood an already over-employed retail market with an additional 120K trainees. End result: Existing retail employees will lose jobs in favor of cheaper trainee labor. Another free kick to Big Biz at the expense of taxpayers

After 30 years in trucking industry, I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy to that dog life ,surround yourselves with good kids not with dogs

Waiting for the catch....

“Where’s the money coming from?”

Why train people for jobs that aren’t there and require actual work experience so many jobs want you to have at least 1 years worth not just vocational training

Is ScottCam going to help out? Asking for a friend 😜

It's just gov knowing that with suppression strategy more workers will get covid-19 & possibly even die so in order to keep things going they're giving people training in areas that'll be hit the hardest in order to replace the sick/dying with young/healthy peole. WearADamnMask

Except there are no “Trainers”. Not one. Not one course either. This funding should go to TAFE or it will just disappear inside dodgy private training organisations who deliver no value.

Will you need the jab to access it? No jab no job?

So TAFE then?

Will it help some of the people that have been on the jobavoider plan for the last 20-years?

And watch this will only be made available if your/part aboriginal or Torrest straight islander!!

Retail jobs are not coming back fast! Why not train people in jobs that will actually be needed - how about green energy production ScottyFromMarketing

After GUTTING TAFE... FFS this government is moronic.

Manufacturing and retail? In Australia? I’m sure those kids have a bright future ahead of them!

Seriously bull shit we lost our jobs and we don’t what is going to happen we are in lockdown no where to go is really scary we are training to be positive but is not working

We should also limit outsourcing as it exports needed local jobs.

Healthcare? Understandable, the system needs help. Transport? No flights, public transport minimised..hmm Manufacturing? Food - yep. But most is China based. Retail? But isn’t it shedding staff? Why fast track training - which TAFE offered - for few if any jobs?

How about training more trades? There is no good reason why this can’t be done... I’d rather see our kids with jobs instead of having to import these skills.

The gig is up! It's not immigration, it's automation. Just give us a UBI before we automate all the jobs away.

What about the older australians who have been put out of the workforce due to Covid 19 recession? They are disadvantaged due to age discrimation!

Lol. Retail? So, the fastest dying sector? Cool.

Teach them to take substandard useless service so Liberal mates can live it up

Because job skills training is totally creating the jobs and will not at all give false hope to people leading them to believe that they will be able to slide easily into a job that isn't even there.

Imagine if the govt had funded this sort of thing all along, rather than gutting TAFE a few years ago and defunding skills-based courses are high schools... will this new scheme stay in place after COVID?

Great, to get jobs that don't exist. Another gift for private training and Labor hire mates

😳. Cut TAFE funding and when it all goes to custard during COVID, come to the rescue with JobTrainer? 😲🤯🤦‍♀️

I'm old enough to remember when this was called TAFE. You know, before the Libs gutted it and handed over everything to their donor mates to run dodgy rip off VETs above fish and chis shops.

It's the Australian electrotes fault, Won't vote for anyone who has long term policy, So you get knee jerk six month plans to try to keep and purchase votes, obviously the majority can't handle grown ups!

Use our money to pay private companies that the become LNP donors and fill the liberal party coffers. Absolutely sickening smoke and mirrors. Dog help Australia.

Nurses are in oversupply, many sectors of transport are becoming automated, manufacturing in Australia is virtually non existent because we're in a global economy and we all know that retailing is a dying industry in its current form. The replacement will have less employment ops

Clueless

First they cut $3b over seven years from TAFE core skills training, then they give a bit back for casual jobs. How is this good leadership?

Retail and manufacturing So one sector where Abbott and co destroyed all the jobs and one sector where they have already let go hundreds of thousands of employees. Good work ScottMorrisonMP - pulse on the finger of what's needed as always. auspol Russodollars

I have given up on listening to anything Scott Morrison has to say. you can not take his word for anything.

Money for rich mates like the current rich mates 2 billion farce and worthless pieces of paper given to students . Another Morrison FAIL

LiarFromTheShire strikes again! Slippery little sucker, wonder if he came up with that one at the footy 🤔

All part of the VoteKeeper scheme

There’s a new guy in town, the JobTrainer, Who’s eager to cause you more painer — He mainly distracts From sense & from facts By prancing about, a flat-brainer.

Stimulate manufacturing by putting in place a reservation? And invest heavily in renewables?

Oh but the government have pushed the teaching curriculum to be all about technology, STEM, robotics and other CRAP at the expense of Mathematics and English. Have robots replaced nurses? Truck drivers? Retailers? Jobs that require people skills...?

Isn’t that called tafe.....

After years of deconstructing TAFE and unis in their own warped image they want to fund it. This is stuff that takes years to fix. Too late for the current generation who missed out. And are expected to pay tax for low grade LNP policy.

Duttons and Govt $500million to PALLADIN guarding Christmas Isl. prison should have JOBS FOR FREINDS tag on it..it is a real scheme..

Um errrrr I was a manufacturer I was decimated by the free trade agreements Johnny Howard signed us up for Now they wanna train people in manufacturing In 2000 I was earning the same as a doctor by 2015 I was getting almost half per hour ASI had been 15 years before!! WTF

Why throw our money at partiality, half arsed initiatives, leaving people out? Not everyone is suited or wants to do those jobs. Fully fund Tafes & universities again, and watch this country flourish.

From a party where education is only for the rich, and vocational training is about importing foreign labour. The only part of this announcement which can be guaranteed. Is a very big promise, with a very little spend!

How about creating jobs for people to actually work in? I know people with healthcare degrees who can’t find work at the moment.

Watch this go down in a heap of burning flames

We need universal basic income. Something like this can happen on top of it if they want, but we need universal basic income.

Does it include a course for incompetent PM’s?

“Job Trainer “ 😂😂😂😂😂 With a brain explosion like that, if he were a school kid he would be moved to the class of kids with learning difficulties 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Retail? With hundreds of retail outlets likely to close, this seems just delaying the inevitable - unemployment. jobtrainer

pedwards2014 Where’s he getting all this money from 🤔

Does he realise that nursing and other “healthcare” careers are multi year university degrees and not just a shortcourse?

Does the word 'notional' spring to mind.

But the issue is that there are no jobs. Our issue has never been lack of training for jobs...

Ahh, didn't they already used to do that? It was called UNIVERSITY and TAFE and APPRENTICESHIP and WORKPLACE training and TRAINEESHIPS You selling snake oil again? ScottMorrisonMP 🤦

Another way to disguise the unemployment rate 🙄

Yep, JobSpanker is at it again!

Sound like another way for crafty folk (program providers)to rip off taxpayers. I wonder how many jobs will result....🤔

ScottyFromMarketing

Make sure you read the fine print Australia! You should all know by now that ScottyFromMarketing adds deathtraps to everything he does to f**k us all over. Its also a waste of money to retrain ppl when there are no jobs atm. Future positions will filled by experienced ppl first.

Magnificent initiative. No gender fluid crap here.

Retail Really ?

Muppet Morrison the ultimate snake oil salesman.

ScottMorrisonMP another lame program. Big announcement, little effect. Fund TAFE and Universities. scottyfrommarketting

Ffs u can tell he worked in marketing

Why not just properly fund tafe?

Bums on seats

Manufacturing? Lol... Would be nice...

And good old mining. Nothing for universities

This JobJob crap is getting nauseating

manufacture what?

ScottyFromMarketing with another dud program

Retail? Doesn’t the government realise it’s all online these days?

Job Seeker, Job Keeper, Job Maker, Job Maker- sounds like a marketing ploy.

Courses held by private colleges no doubt.

Eliminating COVID is a false hope, but 'aggressive suppression' is workingAustralia's Deputy Chief Medical Officer writes that attempting to eradicate coronavirus is not only unrealistic, it is dangerous. but “In Australia, we will continue to strive for local elimination wherever possible.” 🤷‍♂️ We need clear definitions as it seems aggressive suppression = elimination of community transmission by effectively managing border quarantines. That’s what I think most people understand elimination to mean in the Australian context.
